Drinking anything during meals is counterproductive!!
Have you ever noticed when we would eat dinner at the table with our families, or when we visit a restaurant, we end up sitting at a table drinking while eating? It's interesting when the waitress or waiter walks up to your table for the drink order. Drinking, having a beverage when we eat is commonplace to us, but where did this start to become the norm? I find that sometimes we do things because it's what we learned at some point. I'm always curious, and questioning a lot of teachings and societal norms. I can't just go with it. LOL! But here are some of the things about digestion of the food you eat, that you might want to think about next time you are eating a meal either on your diet, or when you're out at a restaurant.
Eating is obviously a nessassary requirement for all of us. But for the athlete, or the healthy lifestyle person eating the right macros, and diet is not only necessary, but vital to all aspects of their lives, training, and goals.
Drinking lots of water effects your salvias ability to start the initial process of aiding in the break down of the food you eat, and inhibits the digestive process.
Digestion continues on into your stomach through and with the help of gastric juices, which contain hydrochloric acid and other enzymes. Some gastric amylase in your stomach continues to break down carbohydrates (which are broken down faster than any of your other macros, and used for energy) into simpler sugars, whereas protein is reduced by pepsin and converted into smaller units called peptide chains. In contrast, fats are not chemically changed very much while in the stomach. A dilution in the form of ingested liquids causes a lessening of acidity in your stomach which significantly reduces digestion, especially for protein, which is extremely important to building, and maintaining your muscle.
So if you're looking to get maximum benefit out of the foods that make up your diet, and you want them to be 100% able to give your body the nutrients it needs to recover, become stronger, and get leaner, to look better, then It's probably best not to drink any fluid during meals. A simple way to ensure proper digestion, would be to not drink anything 10 minutes beforethe meal, during the meal, and 10 to 20 minutes after the meal. I know this doesn't sound like much fun, but give it a try I think you'll be surprised within 2 to 3 weeks the visible difference you'll notice in your physical appearance.

I was at a health fair type thing. Someone did a presentation and talked about something similar to this. It makes sense.
She did say if you have to drink something, make it tea but try not to drink anything.

I remember watching a video of Nasser from back in the day, where he said that he would intentionally drink more water during meals while dieting for a show. The reason being that drinking while deiting gives you a sense of being fuller and not so hungry
