Piriformis Syndrome / Sciatica & How To Get Rid Of This Pain In The Butt Once And For All
If you ever have that George Costanza Wallet and your butt hurts or happen to fall asleep in a very uncomfortable position while watching tv like I did, you may experience some serious glute, hip and lower back pain. This has happened before and while only temporary, can last for days. Found some possible fixes on the interwebz. Feel free to comment."Don't make me angry. I deal with this stuff daily. Periodic stretching multiple times daily is key. Then there are times when I just can't stretch and things really lock up. (Yuk). Foam roller is great for my upper body. Lower body needs industrial strength and the foam roller just doesn't cut it. For legs/IT band/glute/piriformis knots I use either a 4" PVC pipe (one leg stacked over the other) and/or a lacrosse ball. Nothing survives.

I'm trying the foam roller that's here and a tennis ball. Don't have a lacrosse ball yet. Feels a little better today than yesterday. I fell asleep in a very awkward position in the couch Sunday. Delayed reaction until 11am monday and had been hurting all day long like I got kicked by a horse in the behind. Could not sleep Monday night and was in apin all day yesterday. Could not even walk/run on the treadmill. But could still lift.

Welcome to my world. That is me 24/7. Unlike you normal people whose piriformis is a minor stabilizer, mine is forced to act as a major stabilizer. Pain is just what you describe. Painful as it is, It only affects my lifting occasionally. But walking, sitting, sleeping- those are affected 24/7.
The good news: in your case because it's only recent and not chronic, the quicker you loosen it up the better. Get a deep tissue massage if you have time as the very best remedy is an experienced MT's elbow. If you haven't tried ice packs 3-4 times per day for several consecutive days you might want to try it. I find that helps a ton. Static stretching for me does very little compared to dynamic stuff, followed by liberal amounts of Cryoderm (or Biofreeze) then nailing it with the lacrosse ball.
Hope you feel better soon.Last edited by Sunnyday; 07-29-2015 at 10:16 PM.

I have been down this road.....stretch the butt, focus on working with the abs in every exercise ... (concentrate on using your ab muscles more) and then I did basic crunches on a pilates ball with weight plates on my chest 4 times a week!
