LMAO on the cartoon. Not so much for the ones affected by the cutback, but it is the reality of the sport.

Well, I feel the need to comment again.
First off, nice article. Great advice for the athletes... who don't give a shit about YOU, Dave. Let me do a role reversal and give you some advice by a guy who you don't give a shit about.
Dan Duchaine once told me how great of an information broker you once were about drugs, training, and supplementation. I think you were with MetRx at the time, and had just started RxMuscle as a print mag for the very first time. You were toying around with the idea, and it never came to fruition. I followed your career closely back then.
Now, you are a lot of things. Personally, I don't know what to think of you. But, I will say, you are great at providing information as to how a guy who is serious about getting jacked can do so in a hurry. You are stellar at it, actually. You package it well. Always have been. Props for that. So, why don't you take your own advice, and stick to what you know and what you're naturally great at?
Instead of talking about inside baseball (bodybuilding in this case) on HMR (a show I love, btw, but that's only because I spent most of my adult life in the business), talk about how guys can get shredded, swole, and strong as a beast? You'll thank me later.
"Ask Dave" is a step in the right direction. Step it up by axing all your original programming and taking that dedication & singular focus into brokering advice to the average serious brah, and you'll have a winner.
By the way, Duchaine told me that compliment about you almost 20 years ago before this death. Somewhere during that time you've lost your way.
HTH.

I understand Dave's perspective... one thing that seems to be mandatory to garner interest in today's social media climate is "honesty". Love it or hate it, it seems to draw the crowds. That's why you have the Rich Piana's and B-Loyds with massive social media followings.
People are not interested in the old school "take your vitamins and protein" pro BB's who obviously abuse everything from testosterone to insulin.
Justin Compton for example, was clearly banking on this old-school way of interaction as a meal ticket. Well, guess what - times have changed...
If you want to garner attention and gain a mass following, it's becoming mandatory to be honest about virtually everything.Last edited by kSwiZZLe; 08-14-2015 at 10:53 PM.

^^ At least for "male" bodybuilders..
There are gender specific dynamics.

Great article and also liking the cartoon (love how the DBL puppet is taking a puckering selfie). I guess there is no arguing with the numbers but I am more interested in hearing from competing bodybuilders than Rich Piana. I will agree with kSwiZZle though in that fact that I appreciated Rich's honesty when he was on Iron Debate and the few other times I saw him.

Don't forget "personality" something that Rich Piana seems to have in spades while others who are a lot more gifted as bodybuilders (Justin Compton) are severely lacking.
That's because when these up and comers were growing up, they were inspired by body builders who only had to interact via carefully filtered questions, hand picked by editors to be comfortable for the pro to address in a nice neat short magazines article.
Now some of them (Compton) seem disillusioned to the fact that they are expected to interact much differently these days; with social media people expect much more in-depth interaction than in generations past. Those who realize this ( Rich Piana) have been able to capitalize on it despite not having a top rated body building physique.

It's not about honesty. It's about making it look as if youre the only one who tells it as it is,being brash, insulting ,having a lack of respect for authority, deliberately try to antagonise/bash certain people, pretend you wouldn't give a rats ass if you were hated, basically a Lee Priest ,Paul Dillet,Derrick Anthony and Craig Titus rolled into one.9 times out of ten those guys wouldn't say any of that to your face. There isn't even much honesty there because none of them really are the people they claim to be. Mr Confident Rich Piana? Well we've all hear about his 300 insecurities. Palumbo is as honest as any one of those guys but because he doesnt go calling people out or claiming to be the only honest guy around he wont get the same following. Me, I don't buy into any of the Piana, Marco, Lloyd and rest's game.

COMPTON and CENTOPANI both were of the old school thought that if you.......TRAIN HARD, COMPETE AT YOUR BEST, and BE SUCCESSFUL = GREAT PAYCHECK
That's not the case anymore.......... you gotta get out there and work your ass off and be your own media machine

BTW, for anyone who wants to purchase one of these amazing DAN MONROE cartoon prints. Dan is offering a limited number (25 of them) signed and numbered for $25. This will help fund his efforts........and given our support of him, we'll be able to have routine RX MUSCLE TOONS in the future! Here's the link. Show the love! I'm definitely buying one
