I recall Lee Apperson saying he did not have enough dwarfish tendencies to place high and this would have been perfect for him. Rory Leidelmeyer, Bob Paris, John Brown... this class really came to late for so many who could have benefitted from it.

lol no back lat spread and that's one of my best body parts...no side triceps , or front lat spread for mandatory
only
front double biceps
back double biceps
ab and thighs
side chest
and a favorite classic pose
guess it can be included in a classic pose, and/or in my routine
good to see that old posing trunks like Arnold wore will be used, at least I can show off my legs.
again, splitting hairs, would be nicer if it was more bodybuilding -like all poses, and ive never had a problem wearing posing trunks-its all good though, Im happy that this will be here next yearLast edited by John Smeton; 09-09-2015 at 11:01 PM.

I agree with you because it does not make sense. There should be a difference between divisions and there is no way you can change your body to fit into a different division. Having said that, Theresa Ivancik is one of my favorite competitors and Congratulations to her for winning the Heavyweight class in FBB."Don't make me angry. I might be in the minority for saying this, but this screams "hey, hold off on getting better" to me. If you put in the work, you should be rewarded for it. This seems like a step BACK to me, but again, I'm probably in the minority.
As far as classic physique is concerned, seems like a cool new addition which I hope goes well for the guys.FitGems Nation: Where Female Muscle Shines

I started saying that when Figure & Bikini were introduced. Women's competition is an interesting beast because it falls under the umbrella of "Bodybuilding", or at least it did when it started. As with any competition, esp one that doesn't have discrete "win" criteria, you start to see where you can go with it - more / better / stronger / faster. It continued and got rewarded, as far back as when Bev Francis showed up. But we all know that, despite seeing that women really can go places where they've never been before, and in ever dimension, have proven that there is really no limit to what can be achieved w/ dedication, the passion to see where you can go, and some chemical help, the paying public don't really like the end result and the overall trend. A few freaks is ok, but when it becomes the norm, nope. Bikini & Figure, despite still falling into the same show grouping as BB, IMO are distinctly different in that they are not seeking to be bigger / stronger / faster - as a BB, I can't wrap my mind around why anyone would be interested in Figure or Bikini because I passed that level of development 20 years before I ever got on stage -- but that's fine - it's all in the intended outcome - which is distinctly not BB. But Physique - this is an interesting introduction because it does seek to approach BB, but not, for the most part, w/ the thickness or "peeled" conditioning of FBB. Which in & of itself is sort of a step backwards in "effort". So now the actual challenge is dialing in for the specific look and the 'art' of not going to the extreme but still getting a dry, symmetric, full-muscled result.
That's where we are at w/ this sport for women. It is what it is. Personally I'm well past the Bigger is Better simply because I'm 50 yrs old and beat up from the mass gain over the years and the overall wear & tear. I'm also tired of feeling the negativity around the sport. That's just me and I have all respect for anyone else who still wants to literally go big or go home.
I also consider the current posing of Bikini to be a step back 40 years in the evolution of women's 'power & equality' (and no I don't consider myself a feminist) - so again, it is what it is and all respect to anyone who dedicates themselves, finds the passion, achieves and /or competes in their chosen category. I think it is the nature of women's sports in general to be plagued by the relative view of "progress". But I still have much, much respect for the ladies who represent when they get on stage.
Classic Physique - I am also viewing this as a long-discussed and finally executed point of "progress" for the guys. But they too have the challenge of holding back some - I think the point is that not everyone wants to go to the extreme, but if you're going to compete on "how you look", the extreme is what is judged as "best" - but if you don't want that, then it is still a relative dialing back of the extreme, but also w/ the challenge of the finesse and aesthetic of a "less than extreme".
Anyway - philosophical moment, long-winded but I'm still gonna bring my popcorn out and watch the ebb & flow continue. I *hope* this time around the judges (across the board - not just regionally) have the constitution to apply themselves consistently and help keep to this attempt at categorizing "ideal" vs "extreme", in this "extreme" sport.

I'm afraid this sport is becoming a "everyone wins" category. Do we really need classes and more classes to fit into everyone's abilities? I agree with the New Classic Physique class, but that should just replace the MPD. All you need to do is leave it as it is and remove the board shorts and add in a cpl mandatory poses! Lets face it, if you are too big, too muscular or too soft and small or don't have the genetics to compete as a bber, then go do something else. Seriously, the sport does not have to be for everybody. Very few can play in the NFL, does that mean we should have a Pro league for guys that we decent in high school just to make them feel that they can compete? I like the new class, I really do, but then just call it Classic Bodybuilding, and separate it more from the MPD. If you are too big and muscular for MPD, then just do bodybuilding! It's the same thing with WPD, if you are a woman that naturally has a large structure, like over 5 9', 5 10' or taller, you may not fit into WPD as you will look too slim or not shapely enough as the shorter women. It is just like the 212 class. If you are a male that is over 5 10' and you can compete in the 212, you likely will not do well, that is just your genetics, not your fault. Take time off to put on the necessary size and do a open class down the road if you love the sport, but the federations should not try to make up a class that you will fit into. Do u see the NBA having a guys under 5 8' league but are still talented?

^^ The interesting difference between competitive BB & the NFL - fans & sponsors pay mega bucks to watch quality people play - so the bar is set very high for the select few who 'meet the criteria' to play well. BB's target audience & thus, revenue stream, is in competitors & audience. Since this isn't something that the general public comes to watch, and tends to be only the people supporting the competitors (family & friends), the more people they can get to compete, the greater the revenue stream.
So ... different motivation for "who qualifies" - but your point I think still speaks to at least the way it used to be when the bar was set w/ the expectation that only the unique few could achieve a pro card. Now you can buy a Sandow on ebay and even "second best" gets a pro card.
It be what it be.

As a second place Pro card holder I too feel that they're are just too many given out. Mine is of course from Fitness which they started the 2nd place for because they removed the category from both National and the USA. The others were said to fill out the ranks in the begining - just like they did when Fitness was introduced back in the 90's and Figure in 2005. But they just never changed it once the Pros were filled out and I disagree with that move.
As far as it being a step backward to ask the physique and Figure women to to scale back I totally disagree. What's wrong with keeping them from going the route of FBB? As a competitor who doesn't want to look like the jacked, peeled and striated look that is winning right now (in WPD) this means that I may still continue to compete.

Could this have anything to do with what happened at the Arnold. Manion gets the lifetime achievement award only to get criticized the next day by Arnold who doesn't like the way judging is going or the sport of bodybuilding. He certainly made it obvious he wanted Cedric to win.

If you're not allowed to come in at your best and be rewarded for it, the IFBB/NPC might as well not have any female divisions whatsoever, except for bikini, and I'm only choosing that division because women in muscle for some reason is frowned upon on here (no disrespect to the bikini competitors, BTW).
Not everyone can be a winner, compete at the Olympia and/or Arnold, let alone even get a pro card. But every woman has the right to compete at their best within the division of what they are aiming for. This doesn't mean LITERALLY go big or go home, but at least let the women train the way they want to train instead of being held back. That's all I'm saying.FitGems Nation: Where Female Muscle Shines
