It's easy for people to have a flat out negative opinion on this compound, but if someone has obtained it and are going to use they need to be educated instead of just shut down...then they can make a more educated decision on whether to go ahead with it's use and at least have some idea of what NOT to do.

This a part EXCERPT from my new book BREAK THE CODE...advertised here on RxMuscle in the right hand panel >...or by clicking www.getbreakthecode.com...click on the links for the full thing...and the whole of the REAL book...NOT an ebook.

    "DNP (2,4, DINITROPHENOL)

Believe it or not, the original intended use for this compound was as a detonating agent for dynamite, with factory workers on explosive production lines first handling it at the turn of the century. Obviously, in those days health and safety measures were not a major concern for employers, with dust masks and ventilation systems being unheard of. After a few weeks of work on these production lines, many workers began to fall ill with influenza-like symptoms, incredible weight loss, accompanied always by massive increases in body temperature. Some recovered, but many of those struck ill died mysteriously. A little bit on the late side, it was realized that the DNP dust in the air that the factory workers were breathing on a daily basis was causing all the problems. DNP was replaced by picric acid as a detonator, and the problems disappeared.

On examining these problems with DNP, a clever chap who knew a little about chemistry, re-introduced DNP into American society as a fat loss solution in 1931 (can you imagine how much this would make if it were to come on the market these days with the obesity epidemic the western world is suffering from?). In those days the FDA did not exist and all the stringent tests that any new fat loss compound must undergo today weren’t demanded. In 1938, the new-formed FDA banned DNP from the market due only to a less than 1% incidence of cataracts in users (mostly women). This signalled the end of DNP use for fat loss and has only re-emerged in the last few years due to the writings of late, great Dan Duchaine (who’s articles I have read and re-read many times over in the last 30 years of my studies in this field).

In comparison to the other drugs used for fat loss such as clenbuterol, thyroid hormones and ephedrine, DNP’s fat burning results are outstanding. This compound has been seen to increase a person’s metabolic rate by up to 50%. Putting this into perspective, this means that a guy with a BMR of 4000 calories daily could eat up to 6000 calories daily without gaining weight.

Alternatively the same guy could carry on eating 4000 calories and be in a 2000 calorie deficit each day, over 14,000 calories per week which could equate to a 4lb a week fat loss minimum! Compare this to the seemingly meagre 3% increase in metabolic rate gained from the use of the CAFFEINE/EPHEDRINE/ASPIRIN stack and its easy to see why this compound obviously has lots of potential for the athlete needing to shed bodyfat quickly.
    HOW IT WORKS

DNP is classified as a decoupler of oxidative phosphorylisation. For those more scientifically minded of you out there this means that DNP boosts animal metabolic cellular rates by inhibition of the FOF1 ATP SYNTHASE molecule which is located on the inner wall of each MITOCHONDRIA, a component part of a muscle cell. The electron transport chain does still pump hydrogen ions into the intermembrane space, but the coupling of the protein gradient to ATP production (muscle energy), is rendered impossible by the DNP, hence the term ‘decoupler’.

As a result of all this gobbledygook, ATP production is drastically reduced and the energy is instead thrown off as HEAT. This is the reason an individual’s body temperature increases dramatically during DNP therapy. It is said that other persons can actually feel the heat produced when in the close proximity of users as heat is thrown off the entire body surface, particularly the head...I will attest to this radiator like effect from personal use and use of close associates.
    SIDE EFFECTS AND RISKS

Some of the problems caused by DNP use are quite formidable making it one of the most intolerable drugs used by athletes. The risks and side effects below are placed in descending order of importance

    A. OVERHEATING - Since DNP’s body temperature elevation has no upper limit as is the case with beta2 stimulants like ephedrine and clenbuterol, a person can literally cook his or her internal organs by using too high a dosage. This is very serious stuff as a dosage of only 4-6 times that used for fat loss can be lethal for the subject. From the overheating, liver and kidney failure usually happens first, followed closely by brain damage and death.

    B. CANCER - Phenols as a broad group are reputed to be CARCINOGENIC (cancer causing). Whilst DNP has never been reported in any cancer diagnoses many people are still rightly concerned. In addition to this, DNP can cause massive production of FREE RADICALS in the body, and may also release some dangerous compounds from the fat stores due to the rapid fat oxidation processes involved.

    C. SWEATING/DISCOMFORT - It is not unusual for a DNP user to be covered in sweat even during the cold winter months. For manual workers this might be of little concern, but for those with formal/uniformed jobs another method of fat loss might be warranted.

    D. SLEEPLESS NIGHTS - Insomnia comes a very close second to sweating in DNP’s long list of intolerable side effects for most users, partially due to the fact that it is the prolific sweating that keeps them awake, but also due to DNP having CNS stimulating effects. Some athletes use sleep inducing supplements and/or drugs such as TRYPTOPHAN, MELATONIN, GHB and/or tranquillisers/sleeping tablets.

    E. YELLOW BODY FLUIDS - DNP has been used in industry as a yellow dye for a number of years and has no different effects in colouring a person’s bodily fluids. Urine can be a dark orange colour, stools are a deep green colour, sweat and tears are yellow, hell even a man’s semen will have a yellow tinge to it…just tell her it’s lemon flavouring.

    F. MUSCLE SORENESS - The low levels of ATP produced from the inhibition by DNP can lead to extreme levels of muscle soreness, particularly when the user tends to train with heavier weights employing slow negative rep patterns. For these reasons, DNP users may benefit from higher/lighter rep training during its use somewhere in the 15 to 20 rep range to minimise the sometimes crippling soreness that heavy training most often brings.

    G. ALLERGIC REACTIONS - About 10% of DNP users will have a VERY allergic reaction to the compound… reactions that can include hives, skin blistering and rashes. If any of these symptoms do occur during DNP therapy, the user must discontinue its use immediately.
    OBTAINING DNP

DNP can be a very difficult chemical to get ones hands on. Chemical supply companies will only sell DNP to account holders such as research laboratories, chemists, universities, colleges and schools; NOT to individuals straight off the street. However, different sellers do have different rules, meaning that some individuals with the ability to obtain/make fake I.D., have the opportunity to procure some if they are willing to pose as a lab assistants or the like. If any of you do try this route please realise that it is indeed a criminal offence to use fake identification and also makes it very suspicious if you are anything other than smartly dressed…READ: NO BAGGIES.

DNP powder is always shipped in a ‘wetted’ state, in that 15-35% of the supplied weight will in fact be water. The reason for this is that DNP is highly explosive and flammable when in dry form so must be kept constantly damp. On no account should DNP be allowed to dry out, except when making up capsules. Adding water if in doubt, will not in any affect the chemicals potency.

Authors Note: I have personally purchased wetted DNP in 5g ‘baggies’ (touted as one cycles worth), from China via the Internet for about £10 per 5g. Obviously finding a chemical supply company to trust takes some time, but if you want to try this route and have A LOT of patience emailing back and forth, it can be done.
MAKING DNP INTO CAPSULES FOR INGESTION

Home chemistry students should always be extremely careful when handling DNP, as the bright yellow crystals will instantly dye the skin on contact even through a pair of rubber gloves. If your skin does come into contact with any of the chemical, the colouring can be removed by rinsing with 2 (3H) FURANONE DINITRO (or Butyrolactone for short); if this is not available household bleach works some or the stain will fade over time…usually about 3-4 weeks.

The most critical thing about DNP use is getting the dose accurate. Too much DNP in one sitting will result in much more than an upset stomach..........you have been warned.

Dosage wise, Dan Duchaine initially suggested 5-8mg DNP per Kg bodyweight daily in divided doses, but I personally think this is a little too high with most people doing exceptionally well on as little as 3-5mg/Kg of bodyweight, particularly athletes with a current bodyfat level of less than 15%. I.e. an athlete weighing 100Kg, with 15% bodyfat, might dose 300-500mg of DNP daily MAXIMUM, split into a minimum of two doses.
Buying a set of very accurate, small increment electronic weighing scales (weighing down to 1000th of a gram, or 1mg), is essential to be safe. Trying to get by with a crude set of kitchen scales definitely WON’T cut it.

Obtain some size ‘0’ empty gelatine capsule shells from your local health food shop (I recommend SOLGAR ‘GelCaps’™), and a grid for assembling the finished items (these can be easily purchased via the Internet).

Buy some cornstarch from the supermarket (or even use some of your creatine monohydrate you might having lying around), as this is needed as the filler in the rest of the capsule, as the small dose of DNP will not fully fill the rest of the inside of the capsule.

Since DNP is stored ‘wet’, a small amount should be left on a saucer on top of a warm radiator overnight to let the water evaporate off, leaving a dry powder. This drying out procedure will ensure absolute accuracy when working out the ‘true’ weight of the DNP in the capsules. Ensure you put the saucer somewhere away from fabrics or wallpaper though as the yellow fumes will stain anything within a 1 metre radius…ask my wife if this is true…DOH!

Put on two pairs of rubber gloves (to be extra safe), and mix 10g of this dry DNP with 15g of cornstarch/creatine, steadily but thoroughly in a mortar and pestle. Assemble one side of the empty gelatine capsules into the supplied grid (almost always in 50’s), and spread ALL the DNP/filler mixture into these. Ensure that each capsule is filled to the same level by tapping the side of the grid onto the working surface, and then cap all the lower ½ capsules with their tops. You should now have 50 capsules containing 200mg of active DNP each (and a little cornstarch/creatine as well). You may need to alter the amount of cornstarch (or creatine), up or down some to get the amounts right to get level capsules, but you should be somewhere near with these guesstimates.

When filling capsules, it is a good idea to cover all surrounding areas to avoid yellow staining with DNP dust. Always wear a dust mask when handling DNP, and the madatory two pairs of rubber gloves.

TIMETABLE OF EXPECTED SIDE EFFECTS AND SYMPTOMS

Athletes experimenting with DNP for fat-loss tend to use it for only very short cycles, not only because of health risks but also because it is so effective. The following passage outlines the symptoms and side effects of a DNP treatment cycle lasting only 8 days. Obviously, everybody reacts to different drugs in their own way, but this is a blanket statement that will loosely cover all the individuals that can tolerate this potentially lethal compound.

Day 1 - No noticeable effects, but possible carbohydrate cravings and/or slight elevation in body temperature.

Day 2 - T4 to T3 conversion is on the decline, giving rise to bouts of lethargy. At this point body temperature should definitely be elevated, with partners/friends noticing intense radiation of body heat.

    Days 3 to 5
    - Body temperature still elevated with many DNP side effects present. Initial manifestation of reactive water retention possible.

    Days 6 to 8
    - Water retention definitely present with many other symptoms arising. User may have the feeling of being fatter due to carbohydrate depletion of the muscles, not to mention the ever-increasing edema giving the appearance of a ‘smoothing over’ of the overall musculature. Final dose would be taken on the evening of day 8.

    Days 9 to 10
    - All symptoms still present, but DNP is gradually leaving the system.

    Days 11 to 12
    - Water retention should be absent or minimal. User will begin to feel more alert and have more cardiovascular/muscular endurance during training.

    Days 13 to 14
    - Individuals should look their best here since all muscle glycogen stores are fully stocked, alongside no accompanying water retention.
Remember that dosing is entirely dependent on the individual in question, and what works fine and is safe for one, may be too much for another. Always start off with the lowest dosage possible and work up incrementally from there in small steps. If taking more than 300mg daily, split the doses up evenly and take at regularly spaced intervals, usually one dose on retiring at night then one dose 12 hours later using two doses, or on waking, mid afternoon and on retiring if using three. If once a day dosing is employed, take the dose a couple of hours before bed, so all the profuse sweating that will occur, can happen in the privacy of your own bedroom.
As outlined earlier, athletes using DNP normally dose for 8 days on, with an accompanying off cycle of at least 10-14 days to avoid any blood chemistry complications.

    REMEMBER: THIS IS A POISON!

With an 8-day cycle one should find that endogenous thyroid hormone output would NOT decrease dramatically, making the concomitant use of T3 unnecessary in most scenarios. T4 to T3 conversion in the liver will decrease exponentially with time, due to the increase in core body temperature about 24 hours after the initial dose. This is not problematic though, as there should be enough circulating T3 in the bloodstream to last out the short 8-day cycle. The user should be accurately monitoring body temperature using some method (I like infra-red ear scan thermometers) every morning on rising and may find that temperature returns to normal after 4 or 5 days of use in some cases, even with continued DNP application. This is definitely a sign of lowered active T3 levels in the blood and could see the need for its addition to the 8-day cycle, or alternatively employing only very brief 5-day DNP cycles if wishing to avoid T3 use.
If using T3 to string out the effectiveness of the cycle, dosages typically employed seem somewhat higher than what might be expected with ‘normal’ T3 use for fat loss. This T3 dose with DNP is usually in the area of 50-100mcg of T3 daily, but it must be realised that this dose is allowable during DNP use as the user is only replacing what his/her body is ‘missing’. On a normal T3 cycle this higher amount might be classed as overdose but short T3 cycles during DNP use should not be of much concern.

    SUPPLEMENTATION DURING DNP CYCLES

Some supplementation to the diet when on a cycle of DNP can help the user both in cycle effectiveness and comfort, not to mention the positive benefits to health.
MUST HAVES: MAGNESIUM - at least 1500mg daily.

VITAMIN C - at least 3-5000mg daily in divided doses.

    VITAMIN E
    - 1200iu daily in divided doses.
This trio act as antioxidants and free radical scavengers, in an attempt to minimise some of the detrimental cellular effects that taking this chemical have.
POSSIBLES: T3 – 50-100mcg daily dependant on temperature drop during DNP use. ONLY use the minimum amount needed to get the temperature back up to pre-drop levels.

IF ONE CAN AFFORD IT: HYDROXYCITRIC ACID (HCA) - This supplement is taken in an attempt to curb the carbohydrate cravings that most often ensue during the early parts of the DNP cycle.

CALCIUM - 2000mg daily, 12 hours after magnesium dose (if taken). This is to inhibit the leaching effect that DNP can have on bone tissue calcium deposits, which can lead to possible bone embrittlement.
    OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER

Do your research before a cycle of DNP, and fully understand the very real risks associated with its use. This said there are other points of note here that will aid the potential experimenter in safer use....."

...and the sub-section goes on in Chapter 12: Tools for Bodyfat Reduction...the book has 24 chapters in all.

    Check it out.

Solid write up, very misunderstood drug. I have never used it nor do I suggest it BUT I have done a ton of research on it and had some people close to me use it without issues. Its really all dose dependent. Dont be an idiot and youre fine or as fine as you can be.
