212 vs Open Payouts......WTF
Olympia is about bodybuilding. Not physique fitness figure. Bodybuilding. I I dont mean to disrespect anyone is those categories.
Mens open. $400k. Nice.
Mens 212. $40. Fuck that!!!!
I make more than that in less than a year. These guys bust their asses all year for the top show. I feel bad for the 212. Raymond got less than half of the $40k and then these single digits payouts for the remaining guys.
If your giving $400k to the top open, i think $75k to first in the 212 then make $50k to second etc etc...

they call it the 212 showdown....no reference to the olympia! the pay difference is shocking, especially this year with phil taking home 400k. kai must be regretting not signing the contract, he just missed out on a bumper pay day!

Bodybuilding is intended to be lifestyle/hobby, not a career. The fact that a handful of guys are able to make a living doing it is great but an exception to the norm.
Anyone that wants to make money bodybuilding is better off using the stage to get noteriety and then making money doing other things outside of the stage i.e. Dave Palumbo, John Meadows, PJ Braun, Chris Aceto, etc.
At the end of the day everyone knows what the contest prize money is before entering a contest. No one is making them compete and lift/diet for several weeks. They should compete for love of bodybuilding.
Look at how many Ms. Olympias Iris Kyle won. Probably got like $10k for winning.

It is a shame that the 212 guys don't even get 25% of the open guys.
That would at least be something.
That's ridiculous they make 90% less!

It's keeps the title of mr olympia prestigious. 212 is a novelty for guys to say they are the best of the best in thay class and then have a job training or a supplement company. Mr olympia is the top of the mountain where bodybuilding is the full time job and the prize money can sustain that.

It's not anywhere near as marketable - I think in time we will see the bikini and physique division getting quite close to the open mens

212 brings no dollars . The open class isn't what I would be bitching about . I would be bitching about how much fitness and bikini made compared to the 212. All these 212 guys can attempt the open if they don't like their payout. But most of them wouldn't have qualified for the open anyway . And the lucky ones that did, would have placed maybe out of the top 15 .

Where would Flex Lewis finish in the Open? Not 4th that's for sure and 4th in the Open is 55 k so 40 k is okay for the 212 I think. He can enter the Open if he thinks he can finish higher in the money there same with the other 212 guys

The question is "Why" wouldn't he finish 4th?
Because he's not as "big" or because he just doesn't look as good?
If it's the former, that's bullshit.
