Some stuff could actually be just a sticky within a subforum.. gym memes for example could be a sticky in off topic or muscle central

Training journals can just go under training and nutrition. Doesn't need to have a subforum of just journals. Make some of them a sticky in the training section if people update it frequently.

I have been saying things like this but Curt apparently gets pleasure from creating 5,000 sub forums....which does nothing but decrease traffic to the site.
NO ONE wants to spend a bunch of time just finding a topic to read. This many forums means people will just avoid shit.

Do you use this link at all?
Activity Stream
I think it should be a more prominent link but it sure does ensure you don't miss a post.
Curt, it's time for a change! Go with the flow of change.
Maybe a compromise between a gazillion sub-forums and 6
Look at the threads with high post counts and retain those.Last edited by Mac; 10-02-2015 at 12:54 PM.

It's a very obscure link. You must click on the New Posts link in the upper left corner which only shows the threads new posts appear in.
After clicking New Posts then Activity Stream appears in place of the New Posts link.
It also auto refreshes to show new posts too.

Maybe reordering of the sub-forums with the top 5, followed by Sponsors and then Curt's menagerie of forums grouped more tightly?

You're welcome.
I'm the original co-founder of this site. It pains me to read of all the detritus that's piled up. I do care a great deal about sifting our way through it and making these forums a place people want to be. One of the great things about the early gym culture that I miss the most is the community. If you were a regular at Gold's or World gym in Venice all the way up through the mid 90's, you were part of a great community. Whatever you needed; a ticket to a playoff game, the miles turned back on your car, cuban cigars, fireworks, you name it, it was all available from "a guy at the gym." There were barbecues on the weekends, beach days, road trips to Tijuana to buy gear.... there was a big group of bodybuilders and we were all friends. Anyone new to the gym wanted to be counted among us - including rock stars, pro athletes, TV and movie stars - because what we did was cool and we had fun doing it - many times at someone else's expense! That's what community is. That's what's gone in many gyms today because most of us train at LA Fitness or some other fitness chain because it's the closest to our house or work. It's like going to McDonalds for a hamburger.
The only place left to feel like a community is on the boards. Unfortunately, the anonymity afforded by the architecture of a forum can breed it's herd of pure bread assholes. However, that's so in any community, except IRL you actually have to have balls - not the cyber kind. Managing assholes is paramount in any group setting because they are an undeniable fact of human nature. It's how we do it that counts. The far majority of the forum members I've met over the years online have been really good people. You're still out there. You just have to want to be here. And that, my friends, is what we have to do. In any community there are the few that rise to the top and rise to the occasion. We're in that refiltering process now. Gradually we will get things done and things will improve - both in content and community."...The only thing i love more than athletes getting paid is the fact that it's not us who's paying them..."

agreed on the work in progress...this will take time...but this increase in participation is a step in the right direction to reinvent and reclaim what was once a strong RX community

you know, the number of subforums never bothered me b/c I always hit the new posts button...however, if I wanted to start a new thread I will admit that finding an appropriate spot was a bit tedious
