MAN WITH DOWN SYNDROME TO COMPETE IN BODYBUILDING EVENT
Collin Clark prepares for his first bodybuilding competition with help from a dedicated trainer.
For most aspiring bodybuilders, getting ready for competition is a tough journey that takes loads of sweat and sacrifice in the gym. That didn't dissuade Collin Clark. Once the determined, 22-year-old from Indiana made up his mind to compete at a local bodybuilding event, he refused to let any hurdles prevent him from achieving his goal -- not the long hours of training, not the strict diet he would now have to follow, and not the fact that he has Down Syndrome. So with the guidance of Glenn Ubelhor, a personal trainer and bodybuilder, Collin has made incredible progress.
It's been a year since the two started training together, and Collin has dropped 60 pounds and is ready to compete on stage later this month. “I feel great,” Collin said. “I'm so happy to be doing this. Bodybuilding is in my blood and I always wanted to do this ever since I was a kid.” Check out the local NBC affiliate news report for more details about this young man's amazing transformation and commitment to make his dream a reality.

Wow that is awesome. Thanks for sharing this one Sass. From a medical perspective I'm wondering how many of the congenital health issues related to Down's he will be able to mitigate with a (natty) BB lifestyle.

I can't help but think just pushing the body to do the things it was designed to do will strengthen both the physical body as well as the motor functions / neural pathways, as well as promoting more general energy and reducing stress that does nothing but eat away at what makes the body strong. I think it's fantastic what this guy has & can accomplish!

Collin Clarke: Man With Down Syndrome Competes In NPC Contest We recently did a feature on 22-year old Collin Clarke from Evansville, Indiana who decided to compete in a National Physique Committee Bodybuilding contest despite the fact that he has Down Syndrome. In case you missed it, we included the links to Collin’s story below. Well, this inspiring man followed through with his dream and stepped on stage at the 2015 NPC Kentucky Muscle Championships. Collin placed 5th in his first novice (lightweight) bodybuilding contest and without a doubt received the most applause from the amazed crowd. Although he placed 5th, we and everyone else at that contest consider him a winner for what he did on this day. He left an impression that will not soon be forgotten.
NPC NEWS ONLINE would like to give our congratulations to Collin for reaching his goal of competing in a bodybuilding contest and we are honored that he chose the NPC to do it. But most of all we would like to thank him for inspiring us and showing that you can overcome obstacles with hard word and dedication. Also, congratulations to Collin’s trainer Glenn Ubelhor who helped get him ready for this event. Great job! We hope to see you on stage again. Thank you Collin you are Amazing! – Frank Sepe (NPC News Online Editor-In- Chief).
