Default 60% distal biceps tear - anyone go through the surgery?

So I've been experiencing on / off raging tendonitis in my right elbow / forearm for literally years. I've been out of competition for 5 years primarily due to a shoulder issue (overstretched ligaments), but also this same tendonitis. I've been working w/ a great trainer and epic ART guy to help w/ the shoulder and a lot of the tendonitis. However recently it had started flaring again, probably because I was trying to take up golf (to make my mom happy - it's her new favorite sport in retirement). That immediately went down hill where the impact of a swing felt like someone beating the inside of my elbow w/ a baseball bat.

Anyway, I went to get an MRI and lo and behold, I have:

    - complete tear in the short biceps head
    - low-grade partial tear in the long head
    - various tendonosis around all of it

I still need to talk to the orthopedic guy about where specifically tears are because it wasn't in the original MRI report, but I can bet one is in the elbow insertion and the other is at the top of my arm, and one of them may have been there for at least few years. The complete tear hasn't rolled up yet so according to my chiro, it's probably still in the sheath but the tear is still complete. Gross. So it could completely go at any time.

I've got a call out to a recommended orthopedic surgeon, but in the mean time, have any of you gone thru the surgery? I've had arthroscopic surgery on my shoulder and recovered pretty much within 3 weeks w/ no big deal except spending a lot of time w/ my circulating ice water thingy to help keep the swelling down.

After this surgery is there a cast or any arm immobilization? How limited are you and how long before you can at least get thru a regular day (in the shower, comb your hair, get a shirt over your head, etc.) w/o too much trouble? I'm less worried about time in the gym right now than just how much impact on my daily life.

    All experiences welcome!

So it separated from the bone, but the biceps itself was ok? Doesn't sound like fun. How long to heal? What did they do to reattach it?

yes my bicep muscle is okay but it will never look the same, it's healed now (4+ months) but I still have numbness and weird nerve issues.

Good news is that the way the MRI guy wrote the description, it sounded worse than it is. Though the general connection into the elbow is made up of the short & long head, its just called a distal biceps tear.

The tear is about 60%, so first step is Physical Therapy. I'll give it 2 weeks to see if it makes a difference and then I'm going to explore surgery.

    PT starts tomorrow morning!

For anyone interested - here's one of the images from the MRI. The black circular shape in the center is the elbow joint. The white wafty stuff circled to the lower left of the elbow joint is the tear - its like a nasty fray in the tendon. Only 40% is still attached.
