Default The beast comes for bloooood!!!!

My name is Alex Kikel. Im an amateur bodybuilder, powerlifter, owner of online prep coach company BeastFitness, and have my BS, NASM CPT, and NASE Speed and Explosion Specialist lvl II certification.

I'm currently in my offseason cyclical bulking and focusing on gaining as much size and strength as possible while I finish up my Masters in Performance Enhancement & Injury Prevention before continuing onto my PhD in the Bioenergetics & Biomechanics field.

Since I've taken my company full time, I've really focused hard on putting out as MUCH beneficial content as I possibly can (usually in the form of YouTube videos.) I'll keep this log to post up all those videos to hopefully help a person or two!

If you have any questions feel free to ask!

…oh…and if you don't know me…I train a little insane

And here's some pics taken over the past month or so

Tremendous question from Mike Viggiani asking what the research says on beta alanine causing a taurine deficiency. When the research has claims to support both sides, how do you figure out whats optimal?

Repost from my good friend Austin Stout

    Some words on cholesterol:
As physique athletes or anyone for that matter, we often view cholesterol balance as a very important marker in heart heath. Typically we view the values of HDL and LDL. These are usually viewed as good and bad. This is only partially true but you wouldnt know that by how hard these values are pushed on us by modern medicine. Statin drugs are thrown out like candy when in reality, these often worsen the issue.
The problem here is that there are multiple types of both HDL and LDL. Its not often that they are viewed this way though. There are good and bad types of both. LDL particles really arent bad at all until they are oxidized. Viewing and LDL value that is out of range as automatically bad is completely missing the boat on the different particles and what they do.

LDL pattern A particles are harmless but that is not the case with pattern B particles. These are small, dense and hard and most likely to oxidize. This is where you start running into issues. There are even multiple sub types of HDL particles, some of which are in fact INFLAMMATORY!

The take away point here is view cholesterol profiles appropriately. Next time you have them tested, ask for the proper test that will break down how many of each particle type you have of HDL and LDL that way you know what the whole values mean. Ive have suggested this to folks that were being told by their doctor that they were in danger and in fact they were not at all and were healthier once they stopped their cholesterol meds. A very high HDL level isnt always as good (or as important) as you are led to believe. A high LDL level isnt always as bad as what you are led to believe either.
Dont fall into the trap of driving your cholesterol into the basement. Chances are you are doing more harm than good (topic for a different day).

Be proactive in your health and ask to be tested as such. Know your particles!
