Where will bodybuilding be in 2020?
I tried starting a blog but to no avail so I'll post what I wrote here..just a little thoughts about where the IFBB mens open class will be in 2020
As we approach the year 2016, remember ten years ago; 2006 in the world of bodybuilding. Thousands of fans crammed into the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada witnessed bodybuilding history as Jay Cutler dethroned Ronnie Coleman and won his first of four Mr. Olympia titles. The six preceding years were a constant battle between Cutler and Coleman (except 2002 of course when Cutler sat out the Olympia), with some of bodybuilding's perennial favorites coming in 3rd place: Victor Martinez, Gustavo Badell, Kevin Levrone, Chris Cormier and Flex Wheeler. These men, and the others who rounded out the top ten were bodybuilding's most elite group, they were professionals, and set the bar so high that ten years later we still compare physiques to their likeness. But the question today:
In ten years will we have a new group of men as profound as these?
Justin Compton, Cody Montgomery, Sergio Oliva Jr.,Dallas McCarver, Akim Williams
Could I have just named the top 5 at the 2020 Mr. Olympia?
The Men's open division in the IFBB is full of young, talented stars. Aaron Clark recently switched over from the 212 category and plans to compete in the open division in 2016. The next Mr. Olympia will likely see Phil Heath gain his 6th title, Kai Greene who did not compete at the 2015 Olympia may or may not compete, Dexter Jackson if he competes may place in the top 5 and Shawn Rhoden will likely be there as well. But all of those who will likely be in the top 5 at the 2016 Mr. Olympia will probobly be (or should I say should be) retired by 2020, Dexter will be 51, Shawn and Kai will be 45. Phil Heath will be 40, and probably retired which means we will have a completely refreshed lineup at the 2020 Mr. Olympia.
So, what do you think? Based on today's pros give me your top 5 at the 2020 Mr. Olympia. Also, do you think today's pros will be held in the same regard in 10 years as pros from the early 2000's are held today?

I have to believe this might be the case. I'm thinking that the advent of classic physique might subconsciously have the regular division downgrade the importance of aesthetics and proportions and take the judging criteria further towards the simple math of the highest bodyweight/lowest bodyfat correlation.

And if u see the Arnold Classic invite list for 2016 you would know why arnie is pushing for more aesthetics physiques
M glad he is doing his bit to not let this sport become uglier day by day

Hadn't noticed that but you're right. From what I see, only Kai and maybe Branch have had gut issues in this group.

The lack of excitement has more to do with the lack of excitement creating characters. Remember what Chad Nichols said in the Olympia wrap up about guys just standing there with hands on their hips instead of showing some fight for the title that was so obviously (was to us viewers)within their grasp. No real rivalries nothing! The few that do try to be interesting or exciting both onstage and off like Cedric end up being shafted in one way or another. I do think though that the new generation consisting of guys like Ramy, Compton Oliva, McCarver will breathe some new life into it for a while.
