Kai Greene Profiled By Police
Wednesday, February 11th, on the 15th episode of his Generation Iron podcast, Kai Greene spoke briefly about being profiled by NYC police one night recently on his way home from the gym. The conversation started with Kai and co-host Krystal Lavenne talking about racial issues. Here is some of what he said:
"The other night I was stopped by the police, coming home from work, coming home from the gym. If I could tell you the fear ... my hands shook as I tried to keep my hands up ... then find my ID and not want to get shot. Not to say that every police officer is bad because there have been times in my life as a young man where I was saved at the hand of a police officer that should have otherwise done something else, but he didn't."
"There's a moment when the lights are flashing behind YOU and you don't look like what you're being stopped by, and in that moment to them you look like the face of criminality that is on all the negative rap albums and so on. And there's no leniency or distinction that will separate you from that ... but what we see right here and now and in this moment. So to be an African-American man, almost 300 pounds, with an 8-inch scare running down the right side of my face ... with a hoodie on ... as much as I may have, at other times in my life, in the course of my day feel removed from Oh well I'm an athlete, I'm a bodybuilder, I'm a personality ... WHOA! Real talk! I witnessed my hands shaking as the police officers were really not very nice with handling me. Not very nice at all, and it was frightening."
*In the episode Kai also gave a shout out to cops, and both he and Ms. Lavenne spoke encouragingly about unity and how celebrating your own culture shouldn't cause division with another.
*Regarding posing, Kai spoke positively about the new Arnold scoring system. He thinks that it could eventually reflect in the gym as well. Instead of focusing and just getting bigger, bigger, bigger and harder, harder, harder young bodybuilders might be encouraged to pose more away from the stage and, in turn, believes it could benefit their approach to training. He said the fundamentals of being a good athlete have gotten lost.

To label this as profiling is total bullshit. Did it ever occur to anyone that Kai may have met the description of someone the cops were looking for? And if the call came from 911, it was not the cops' just grabbing the first black guy they saw.
I'm sure that he was wearing heavy clothes so it's not like it was obvious he was a jacked bodybuilder, which is not an average look that can be misconstrued. And I'm not sure exactly where this happened, but Kai for years lived in a housing project in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn which is a total shithole writhe with violent crime.
Enough of this racial issue crap every time a black guy is involved. No one else will have the balls to say this but I'm too old to continue to keep my mouth shut.

Joe, you can profile someone without saying anything to them. The issue is that the word "profile" is a violent word in your vocabulary.

Lol Joe you're always defending the cops! Each and every time. Cops often are cowards that abuse from their "position"/ "badges" / authority and weapons. Even if not necessary, they could have calmly ask Kai his ID, and it would have been avoided.
But some of the cops like "abusing their authorities" even assaulting "black", "hispanic" or "white" people that have a certain look. THAT's it and there are a LOT of THESE COPS.
That's the reality.
And please you never had your mouth shut about that issue. I guess you would probably be one of these abusive cops.David Cua also called Donald Pump known for "making bodybuilding great again" !

Kai didn't say anything negative about the police. He said in this instance he was scared and wasn't being treated well. He actually said later on the police were the salt of the earth. High praise.
In this case they obviously had nothing to go on apart from his appearance. So the word "profiling" as the thread title is applicable. It doesn't represent violence, it represents appearance. And if they were looking for someone that met Kai's description then that is also based on a profile in the definition of the word. Taken out of context in your country the word means abuse and violence I guess. I hope that changes.Last edited by MusclePoppins; 02-13-2016 at 02:48 PM.

Curious, one does not appear to acknowledge the officer's point of view. We never heard it. When did the situation look like? What were the aspects of the situation that "caused" the officer to behave in such a manner? What, in any, situations was the officer in earlier that evening? Nothing is referenced. One cannot opine without information, and with only one persons vantage point, too much information is missing.

"Police profiling" in the US is viewed as something very negative and if he met the description of someone from a 911 call, then it is completely not profiling in any way, shape or form, but rather the police just doing their job stopping and identifying someone they were alerted to via a citizen.
Was the official title with the word 'profile' from Generation Iron or did you just state that?

Never mind. It must be episode 15, right? The description notes:
EP 15: Perfect The Pose
Kai Greene opens up about the the new decision to start scoring all of the Arnold Classic competitions across the globe. He also chats with Krystal about just how much training actually goes into posing on the pro level. According to Kai, many NPC amateurs have no clue how to pull off "real" pro level posing - especially when young competitors are getting their pro cards so early.Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Join Rx Muscle on Facebook!

They didn't just stop him. He was clear they weren't treating him well while he was going from the gym back to his home. Police can do their job and respect people. We get all the American television stations up here in Canada on our basic cable. We see what's going on. For example, my channel 4 is Action News from Detroit. We get all the national and local shit. But in Canada an average of 2 people have gotten killed per year in the last 25 years. Profiling is something we can actually talk about.
Nobody used the word profiled, but it's what Kai was talking about in describing his appearance, so that is what I put in the thread title.
Someone shouldn't be scared about being shot in an identification process. That is not the police doing their job.

You have to profile... Like it or not.. And what if the call was to look for a gay black male that just raped someone??
