The Nationals actually had over 1,000 last year if what I heard was correct. So add a few hundred more with MCP.
And all of those competitors - with the majority being from MPD and bikini - is a very bad thing for bodybuilding fans that have zero interest in these categories. As far as the media goes, I can say from personal experience that covering a show with that many competitors is akin to sticking a screwdriver in your eyes.
Of course the promoters and the league love it.

May be a while for those, but the Fit Model divisions that are already a part of the IFBB Amateur league overseas will in all likelihood be adopted by the NPC and IFBB Pro leagues within two years. That's just my opinion, of course, and not based on any information I have or have not heard.

Right on the money Joe. lol at people acting like all these divisions are good for bodybuilding. It's like having a table tennis match and soccer game before/with every football game. Yea, that would be GREAT for football.
It is good for promoters and anyone else who makes money off of 6 million competitors, obviously. For BODYBUILDING, which is the backbone of this whole industry, it is not only bad, but excessively annoying.
Bodybuilding fans are being replaced in the stands by moms, dads, and significant others of the 50 million lame-divisions competitors, who leave before the bodybuilding even starts, and who could give two shits about any division their son/daughter/bf/gf is not in. Yea, that is great!

Thanks, Geoff. It's tough to get allies in this discussion! LOL.
The bodybuilding fans have long complained about the overloading of the MPD and bikini divisions. Now MCP is just an offshoot of MPD and has nothing to do with bodybuilding. Jim Manion even said as much in that new video with Shawn Ray. He corrected Ray when he mistakenly called it 'classic bodybuilding' and that they named it physique to get away from the stigma attached to the word bodybuilding.
Well, that 'stigma' is a good thing to the real fans and not the cardio bunnies and politically correct crowd that is afraid to ruffle feathers.
