Who was better: Dennis Wolf or Gunter Schlierkamp?
I pick Gunter. Faced better competition and beat Ronnie Coleman head to head.

Dennis should have finished ahead of Ronnie for 4th at the 'O' in 2007. Aside from using Ronnie as a barometer, I think they each win some shots.
Dennis has had a longer run and more consistency. Six top-5's at the Olympia and an Arnold victory over a very good Shawn Rhoden, not to mention five other pro wins and multiple runner-ups, etc.
Gunter's GNC Show Of Strength victory in 2002 was his only pro win and it was against a very poor version of Coleman. He also had three top 5's at the Olympia (5th in 2002/2003 and 4th in 2005), but had some pretty bad placings at the Night Of Champions shows, among others. And it's not like there were Shawn Rhoden's out there beating him for 8th spot at the San Jose Pro haha.
I also think people underrate the current era in comparison to the Dorian/Ronnie years where they also faced plenty of criticism. With aging guys staying at the top and competing into their 40s now and holding their size, plus the young guys coming up ... we're going to have a couple of years here where very good bodybuilders aren't going to place in the top 15 at the Olympia. One day everyone will realize how deep the talent is right now.

So Olympia LLC posted a video today on their Instagram with Dennis Wolf holding up the contract saying he signed it and will be ready to compete...

True. His waist actually grew way more than it looks in that photo. His waist used to be ridiculously small:

I don't have an issue with Dennis Wolf's waist. The point was that 2013 Wolf beat the 2007 Wolf. Muscle maturity at work. But regarding waists, I like how people say "these days" like Ronnie Coleman's waist didn't get bigger each year starting 16 years ago, or like Dorian's wasn't getting bigger 22 years ago. The current group of top guys isn't the starting point for this phenomena. It's interesting seeing fans grapple with completely developed bodies (legs included) like it's something brand new. I'm sure all of you would love to go back to 1980 when whoever had the only cut in their tiny thigh and whoever's hamstring was the shiniest under the lights won the Mr. Olympia. Just go follow another sport already.
Anyway, Dennis Wolf is a great bodybuilder. Hopefully he's able to prep at the level he needs to prep at and actually makes it to the stage in September. I'd hate to see him having to drop out.

Shawn, Flex, Kevin, Matazrazzo, Lee Priest, Lee Haney, JOJ, David Henry and Melvin, just to name a few, never had that issue and i'm sure I ould think of about 10 more modern guys who are very good who it did not happen to as well. It does not happen to everyone and you certainly do not have to go back to the 80's to find guys it did not happen to. Hell, even Branch Warren for fucks sake. Branch's waist didn't grown until the last couple of years. His waist actually looked smaller when he was placing high at the O than it did early in his pro career.
Some if these guy's waists obviously grew a little, but the point is the rest of them grew much more, making it a non issue. I'm referring to guys who's waist grow significantly despite the rest of them only growing a little bit.
