SIBU: The tremendous value of sports has been highlighted by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

“This is also a platform that gathers individuals from all walks of life, which further highlights our focus on forging and strengthening unity amidst diversity.

“The world of sports is one that knows no race, no religion and no status. Instead, it emphasises on challenging one’s capability towards excellence.

“It also underlines the spirit of sportsmanship, where there is really no loss— just experience and learning that push you to become better than you were before,” he said at the Mr Malaysia 2016 championship finals hosted here on Sunday.

The text of his speech was read by Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

The national event was organised by Sibu Division Bodybuilding and Weightlifting Association (SDBWA) in collaboration with Sarawak Bodybuilding Association (SBA) and sanctioned by Malaysia Bodybuilding Federation (MBF).

On the event and the body builders, Adenan pointed out that no one can build such amazing bodies overnight because one needs focus, commitment, discipline, dedication and willingness to sacrifice.

“The same principle, actually, applies to all of us. We cannot expect things that we do half-heartedly to produce the results that we want.

“To achieve excellence, we must strive for it through excellent efforts.

“If you are a student, study effectively. If you’re a worker in the services sector, deliver your best. If you’re a businessman, offer your best product and always follow up on your customers.

“If anything, we can emulate the dedication of these remarkable bodybuilders,” he said.

Sarawak emerged as the overall champion beating 12 other states and teams from Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and Armed Forces (ATM). Among those present were SDBWA president Chia Soon Cheong, SBA president Datuk Wee Hong Seng and MBF president Datuk Wira Dr Gan Boon Leong.
