I'll tell ya what! Compared to the shit photos & video I used to get w/ my iPhone 4S, this Samsung rocks. The ability to zoom video was very cool. The delay in keeping / retrying and updating to get to the next photo were sort of a pain. However I have other issues w/ the Samsung (Galaxy 6). I'm looking forward to when my 2 yrs is up and I can get an iPhone (which will hopefully have any kinks worked out in the 7 or 8.)

Found this video of Rising Phoenix from IFBB pro Melody Spetko's page-the commentary is good too!

Granted this show is only in it's second year, but some things I would suggest:
- During the women's night show, (only) for the FBBs, they played ~3 minute videos that each competitor either put together themselves, or it looks like someone from the org captured some speaking time probably at some time they were able to coordinate a day or two before the show when the competitor had arrived at the venue. Each was played before / after (depending on technical issues) the competitor did her routine. These were interesting, but some were iffy quality w/ rough audio, some were a little too shmoe-tastic for me, some were watching the competitor grilling chicken & eggs.
- I would've liked to have seen more consistency w/ these or at least have a consistent interviewer do all of them. And keep them shorter.
- I also think this would've been a great thing to have up on their website to further promote the competitors.
Props to the intermission show - it was a group of people who do South Pacific island dances, e.g. hula, etc. The MC / group guy also did some dancing and was actually a pretty engaging young man w/ good humor. I know everyone uses those intermissions between divisions to hit the bathroom and stretch their legs, so it probably sucked to play to a smaller audience and watch people going out the door during your performance, but I enjoyed it. And it stayed w/ the "volcano" theme that is the backdrop for "Rising Phoenix". I've seen all sorts of interest different intermission shows that are sort of in the "fitness" realm but definitely tangential. So, anyway, props to that group!
I will give the promoters that this show is definitely focused on the FBBs since they did give them a lot of time & coverage. Even at the finals, they called out all 18 competitors and everyone got a call out and flowers.
Coverage - yea I get that all the forums are focusing their budgets on the O next week, but seriously, how hard would it be to give a heads-up ahead of time to the forum audience to see if anyone is in the area or going to the show and could they cover it? Yea, I get there's some expense incurred, but at least for the ask, possibly someone might be available. And just more talk in general.
I dunno. I came to the show because of the minimal coverage I found online in the morning. I did my best on a fully charged cell phone. My photos are getting shared all over FB right now, and I'm happy I was able to do it. Just seems like we should be able to come up w/ better ways to give these shows & the competitors more coverage w/ all of the people in the fitness industry, all the outlets and all the technology we have available. This goes for so many of the NPC shows, even the hyuge national shows.
JMHO.
