He needs to connect with the audience more with his routines.... thoughts?

Once they called Ramy and Dexter back his attitude changed... he started posing with no interest and it got worse and worse. He lost this in his head first

He does look bored and that is really sad because I thought he was working with melvin Anthony this year on his presentation. Sometimes the guys with the best physique have the least interest in showing it off. If Rhoden had Dallas's enthusiasm, he would place better. IMO

Rhoden's definitely got that rap.
Maybe in his head he believes he's doing his all, but he's done if he can't muster some energy in his presentation. They say posing doesn't count, never has, well, I remember Lee Thompson gushing like a school girl over how Heath dominated or owned the stage. He seemed to think that Heath's aggressiveness on stage counted for something.Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Join Rx Muscle on Facebook!

Lee Thompson and Phil Heath are both schoolgirls. An Olympia judge and Mr. Olympia co-promoting events ... that should have been illegal under the IFBB banner. I also like Lee going on MD Radio and defending Phil every week while ripping apart Kai Greene's chances. Mind was made up. Friendship solidified. Conflict of interests. Never mind the Steve Kuclo win over Lionel Beyeke.
Shawn Rhoden's posing wouldn't affect me as a judge. He could pose with his eyes closed, ... if he had the best physique I'd give him 1st. But the lack of energy can cause you to take your eyes off him in a toss-up comparison and it doesn't help the fan support. I'd listen to Jay Cutler on posing advice and watch him and Ronnie's final callout at the 2001 Olympia prejudging religiously. Hard, agressive posing. Holding the poses. Controlling the abs. Keeping everything tense, especially the quads (Shawn also lets those monsters relax, not just his abs). They also had humor and gamesmanship.- BODYBUILDING -

i generally offer my view point of a show which can differ from the collective scores of the judges I really don't care at the end of the day who won the show ( Dexter) over say Ramy. Course I would like see Ramy win but this sport is very very subjective. What was wrong here was that Shawn Rhoden was not put directly in the middle out of respect as the supposedly second best bb on earth as judged 8 days earlier. The judge lined him up on the end. If after lining them up you don't think he was deserving then switch them. It's not like you are pressed on time. It showed lack of experience I felt in terms of running the show

There's no way judges and the fans/press can really make accurate assessments of who's the best bodybuilder up there if u don't compare every top 5 competitor against each other. Give everyone a chance (In the top 5) to win the show. Then make the final assessments. Spend 15 more minute judging the bodybuilding ... and cut the bikini girls 15 min short. Their "walkouts" are longer than the men's 60 second mandatories, for god's sake.

Rhoden was really good here, it was a coin flip of the top guys, be he held his own in mass against Ramy, with one of if not the best waist right now in the IFBB to match. Bonac still looked great too

Chris Aceto can probably attest to this better than I can, but Rhoden's personality is one that is quiet and humble. I know him from doing his column every month together when I worked for FLEX. (You guys don't think that these IFBB pros sit there and type those out, do you? LOL)
He is one of the nicest and coolest guys that I ever dealt with in this industry and is so soft spoken that it's hard to hear him at times during phone calls.
Possibly that type of personality is one that doesn't do a twerk and a cock shake on the stage and I, for one, am glad for that. That type of shit sucks and classic posing has become a lost art.
