Default Geoff Roberts is Rx Muscle Member of the Month for October 2016!

Geoff Roberts, co-host of IronMag Labs' Central Bodybuilding Radio and International Iron Radio is this month's Rx Muscle Member of the Month! Let's learn more about this longtime Rx Muscle Forums member!

    cbr-rx.jpg

How were you introduced to the weights?

I grew up as a chubby kid, but was always interested in muscle. Rocky movies, WWF, Arnold, etc. I starved off all of my weight during my senior year of high school. I had a friend who worked at a video rental store and I was there visiting him as a now-skinny 18-year-old when it happened... I stumbled upon Pumping Iron on the shelf and proceeded to put it in the store's VCR, mostly as a joke. It turns out the joke was on me and the rest is history.

How did you learn about Rx Muscle Forums?

I started following the RX almost from the day it started. I originally got on the forum to watch play by plays and to promote my power lifting.

    gr-deads.jpg

What’s your favorite part of Rx Muscle Forums?

The ability to bring certain things to the attention of guys like Dave, Chris and other important names in the industry is probably my favorite aspect.

What would you do to improve the site and the forums in particular?

I would have me on HMR in the same capacity that Aaron used to be.

In regards to the forums, more Dave/IFBB pro posts would obviously be an improvement to any forum.

    gr-bdb.jpg

How did you become involved with IronMag Labs?

I originally started writing for Iron Magazine while I was attempting to build my name as a writer in the industry. When I left PBB I needed a new place to air my podcasts, so I pitched the idea of IronMagazine.com having podcasts to Rob and he loved the idea. IronMag is a phenomenal company to be involved with all the way around.

    iml400.jpg

What's it like doing podcasts? How do you prepare for each episode?

I love doing podcasts. I have listened to every episode of HMR a minimum of 3 times, some episodes well over 10 times. The same goes for PBW. From 2007 to 2013 it was my dream to be on a bodybuilding radio show. Prepping for Central Bodybuilding mostly involves keeping close tabs on the industry in order to gather significant topics. For International Iron, Lee and I develop topics based on all sorts of different conversations we have about not only bodybuilding but pretty much any other topic as well. We also do a lot of listener Q and A, as there are few people in the industry who garner more fan questions than Lee Priest.

    iir-rx.jpg

How did you meet your wife and how did you propose?

I was playing basketball outside my friend's house in 2006 as a freshmen in college. She was walking by his house with a couple friends who knew a couple of the guys I was playing with. I was wearing a wife beater so, yeah, that was all she wrote.

Our relationship is very laid back and fun. Unlike most married couples, I never feel like being away from Courtney. She is my best friend and I have more fun with her than any other person. As a representation of our fun, laid back relationship I popped the question while we were just laying in bed watching TV together.

Do you have a favorite movie?

Predator and the Toy Story movies.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgoiKLFBA3Q

What is your favorite part of the iron game – strongman, bodybuilding, Men’s Physique, Bikini, etc.?

Bodybuilding, hands down. Although I am not entirely pleased with the direction in which it is heading.

What's your favorite thing about bodybuilding?

It's depth. It is all encompassing. Everything you do everyday has an effect on your bodybuilding results. That's unique.

What's your least favorite thing about bodybuilding?

Three things: Super high drug doses, dependence on drugs, and SEO use.

What is your goal so far as the weights go?

I would love to compete in Classic Physique and do well despite having diabetes, Hashimoto's disease, and Addison's disease. Ask any doctor if that is possible and they will say no. Although it would be extremely difficult, I have no doubt that I could pull it off.

Would you share your greatest experience in the sport so far?

This is a tough one. Probably when my first ever article was published, which was here on RX. I will never forget the morning that I saw Dave responded to my email saying he was going to publish that piece. Unbelievable feeling. Interviewing Lee Priest for the first time was also huge for me.

What has been one of your greatest disappointments?

Addison's disease destroying my dream of being the greatest dead lifter to ever live. I was after Ed Coan's all time record of 901 in the 220 pound class. I truly believe I could have done it.

    gr-deadlifting.jpg

Do you have any favorite bodybuilders or strength athletes?

The first names that pop into my head are: David Henry, Dorian Yates, Cedric McMillan, Stan Efferding, Juan Morel, and obviously Lee Priest.

Who is someone you look forward to meeting and perhaps picking their brain?

I put very little stock in simply meeting people, as they are just people. Time spent together/good conversation is an entirely different story. Picking their brain? Chris Aceto, Chris Aceto, and Chris Aceto.

    How’s your training going?

Not bad. I train at a shitty commercial gym and I'm very busy, so it is tough. I also do not have a steady partner, which I prefer to have. That said, my training is going pretty good all things considered.

What’s the craziest workout program you’ve followed?

I used to train very hard in my early 20s. Back would be dead lifts up to 500 pounds for reps, 300 pound barbell rows, 150 pound dumbbell rows, heavy lat pull downs, then one machine, maybe a seated row. (I only weighed 185-190.) My workouts were like that for every body part every week and sometimes lasted over 2 hours. Also, "Milos sets" as we used to call them. Roughly 5 exercises, roughly 10 reps each, going through all 5 exercises 3 times without stopping, AKA a giant set which contained hundreds of total reps. Light weights obviously, but man those were brutal.

What has been the most effective workout you’ve followed?

10 weeks training for a meet doing just the basics for no more then 5 reps, followed by 10-20 weeks of higher reps, drop sets, etc., and repeat.

    Favorite TV show?

Currently? Trailer Park Boys. Ever? Probably The Office.

What are three things you couldn't live without?

    My wife. Insulin. Corticosteroids. lol

You're the manager at Vitamin World? What's it like breaking that stereotype - the one where the supplement store employee knows nothing about supps or strength?

My traps busting out of my button down broke that most days. lol I ran supp stores from 2009 to 2015. However, I haven't worked at one for over a year now. I'm actually a manager at a toy store now. It's a great change of pace and I like it.

What's your top deadlift? You've moved some serious weight.

I did 670 at a meet weighing 192. I have also done 650 weighing 188 and 625 for 3 reps in the gym. Also, how could I forget doing 315 for 33 reps and beating Seth Feroce in the process at Bros vs Pros weighing 195 pounds. Not that it matters, but these lifts were done "naturally".

    What currently drives you nuts?

Sheeple. Everyone is a brainwashed sheep who cannot think for themselves or outside the box. Drives me nuts.

    gr-sheeple.jpg

    What motivates you?

Fear of failure. Fear of people pitying me.

    What are your hobbies?

Learning about animals/nature. Golf, basketball, and fishing, although I have little time for them anymore. My favorite pastime of all is having deep, meaningful conversations with other intelligent/like minded people.

    Do you have any pets?

Two cats and two fish. I love cats and I love fish. I've actually been speaking to Dave about buying one of his tanks.

Thank you for sharing some time with the readers of Rx Muscle Forums, Geoff!

667 @193 and 670 @192 in meets. I certainly had a little more in me on both of those lifts though.

625 x3 at about that same weight in the gym.

I probably said 2 negative things about RX TOTAL while I was there, both of which are now gone from the site... so maybe I was right? That said, I did a lot of things at that shit hole that I'm not proud of. It was a negativity cesspool.

I always treated Curt and Dave with respect, no matter who I was working for. In fact, I actually had negative RX talk edited out of a couple interviews I did while at that site. So yea, you are completely wrong sir.

Thank you for following me so closely though, I appreciate all my fans, bitter/sad/jealous or not.

Congrats Geoff, your contributions to the site are valued. Keep plugging away at powerlifting too my friend, the impossible may just be possible. One day there might be a pituitary transplant that'll fix the entire endocrine system, lololol. In the meantime, theres always upping the dose of cortef on taxing CNS days??....
