He he very well may have been "trolling" per say. And I'm sure there was at least an element of that. I'm not dogging Romano. I don't think for a guy in his position it's necessarily a wise move to do that with the IFBB considering that essentially cost him his job in bodybuilding in the past. For
a guy who loves bodybuilding I would think he would want to work towards mending strained relationships, not further test them. but it's his life. If it was a legit criticism or point over an issue that was being ignored due to fear of repurcussion from the organization, fine, but to do it over something ridiculous like this seems unnecessary.
The reason it's a point of discussion for me at all is John seems to criticize the IFBB every time I hear him speak on bodybuilding. It gives the impression he is less concerned with the issue at hand and focused solely on criticizing the organization, irregardless of what's right or wrong. I don't know if he even realizes he's doing it, it seems almost subconscious.
Say what you will about the IFBB but they have kept the sport we love alive and well for many years. They are far from perfect but every company is. And for good or bad they essentially run the sport of bodybuilding. They aren't going anywhere. Dave does a great job of offering constructive criticism when it's needed but does so in a way that it's clear he wants to improve the sport, not grind his axe. John comes off almost the exact opposite.

I didn't say he didn't also say other things, things that might have even directly contradicted the the other things. He did say he didn't condone the violence and felt bad for the judge who was assualted. You're right. But to say he didn't say the other things is silly, he said those also. And I get that his point wasn't to encourage violence.
His point was that bodybuilding needs a WWE based model. He even said, this is right out of the WWE playbook. But again, this business model has already been tried and failed. And if Vince McMahon can't make it work, a genius in the world of sports entertainment with pockets as deep as the ocean, I'd say it's a very good assumption that bodybuilding shouldn't try to go back down that road.
Bodybuilding is a niche sport, it's always going to be a niche sport. But it has grown more in the last 5 years than it has in decades with the addition of new divisions and the growth of social media. The biggest problem with bodybuilding is they haven't found a way to bring in main stream sponsors. Being entirely dependent on the supplement industry for revenue is a terribly insecure position. The supplement industry is largely comprised of fly by night companies selling unknown ingredients in fancy bottles and labels with a bodybuilder claiming to look the way they do because of product x,y,z. And the big problem with that is that it's not true. Bodybuildings entire revenue stream comes from an industry that uses bodybuilding to lie to its customers. In the age of information that is going to end. People are learning that Jay Cutler looks the way he does and it
has absolutely nothing to do with cell tech.
This isn't to say there aren't some great supplement companies that sell some great products. Dave is a great example of this. The problem is, at least right now is that selling quality products doesnt pay. Ask Dave. It pays to sell cheap products and those that fall in legal grey areas or both. I think we will see things change in the future where the vast majority of these companies go away.
But what the sport really needs is an image and brand that appeals to more mainstream people. This will bring in more mainstream advertisers. That is where the real money will come from. that is how the sport will become more mainstream. And I think it's moving in the right direction with the new divisions. But things like fights or WWE style entertainment isn't going to help us achieve that. It's going to hurt that movement.

This is worse than anything Romano said, imo.
You're saying show sponsors are liars. The IFBB works hand in hand with liars?
And the WBF was derailed by those federal steroid charges against McMahon. The competitors were drug tested, followed a high fat diet (minus Strydom), came in looking like garbage, and folded when fans didn't support that at all.Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Join Rx Muscle on Facebook!

It was a slap. The guy didn't get his head knocked off. He wasn't unconscious. He got right back up. Where's the consequence other than embarassment?
Is the lifetime ban still in place for Magkos? Is the two-year suspension still in place for Greek athletes? Those are consequences. What Magkos offered was no consequence. It was a tantrum.Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Join Rx Muscle on Facebook!

He looks conditioned. He stated he wasn't compared with the HW. That would be a rip off, but to smack the emcee? Lol Wtf?
Magkos gets Man Points, but that won't add to his score card in this instance. It's a shame he went crazy, momentarily bonkers after competing for 13 years. But, yeah, like an apology would make any difference. Magkos is toast. This is his 15 minutes of fame. :-(Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Join Rx Muscle on Facebook!
