Lee Haney had the 2nd best genetics of all time of a Mr Olympia and had the brains to use them. He was battling for the Olympia at 23 years old.
"Stimulate not annihiate" is not something that was running through Dorian or Arnold's mind when they were training I'm guessing.
I see that Haney would have been Mr Olympia in any era and if he started in the 90's and used the same drugs as everybody else he would still have won 8 Sandows.
Mr guess is Haney had extra gears he never used.
He was born to be a bodybuilding king.

We could extend the discussion to men who have placed in the top three four or more times. These men are:
Kevin Levrone 7
Shawn Ray 5
Kai Greene 4
Shawn Rhoden 4 (still competing in the O.)
Ken Wheeler 4
Surge Nubret 4
Rich Gaspari 4
Lee Labrada 4
Any patterns? Six of them are of African descent.

Training wise Id say Dorian trained the hardest. All around worked the hardest Jay hands down

I agree with all your picks aside from two large mistakes. Arnold was notorious for being the hardest working guy from that era, he belongs in the work group. Dexter never did abs or cardio and admitted to eating fried chicken and shit on his diet... easy group for sure.
I could also see Jay in the working group. Jay was a bodybuilding monk in his day.

Hany and Oliva should have their own ultra-easy category. Lee's motto was essentially "dont train too hard" and he routinely made ice cream part of his pre contest diet. Not to mention he dominated the Olympia stage in his late 20s. Sergio didn't diet.. at all.

Mobster brings up a good point that some guys have just been unlucky in who they had to go up against. I saw this post the other day about who would have been Mr. O each year if the 2nd place guy had won, and Jay would've had 6 O's. When you go up against someone like Ronnie its a whole new ballgame in terms of what you have to overcome.

Geoff Roberts speaking the truth about Dexter, Arnold, Lee and Sergio. Especially Dexter. If Dexter had to work hard when he was younger he wouldn't still be around. Cruise control saves gas.
I'd add to the Jay monk comment that Jay also did a shitload of volume. I figure he did 3x the work than Dorian did, per week. Not the same peak intensity, but none of his sets were light either. He was a working-man's monk. The monk of monks. And of course the years he was less monk-like he didn't look as good.- BODYBUILDING -

DORIAN YATES worked the hardest to make good genetics a GREAT PHYSIQUE (6x Mr Olympia). Case closed.

Dorian was a genetic freak. He entered his first British championship with hardly any serious training at 35. The response from the judges convinced him to go at it. I used to read Muscle & co, the brit mag.
He did work like a maniac after that.
And he had huge calves without training. Looks like these days the judges don't even look at calves.
