More People Gone At MD
Joe Pietaro is reporting over on MSM TV that 2 more higher-ups at MD are now gone of their own accord. Looks like David Baye's departure was the first of several.

When you don't get paid, you can't pay your mortgage, phone bill, electricity, cable, etc...........so you have to go get a "paying" job!

Schadenfreude over hard times at MD is misguided. It we lose MD, that leaves the AMI/Weider mags (& Iron Man, which gets shorter every month) as the only widely sold print periodicals. A lot of people depend on the mags to market themselves & get the word out on their work in the bodybuilding & fitness industry. We have lost too many mags already. Every loss means it gets harder for some to stay in the industry. A loss for one part of it is a loss for all.

While you have a point, my friend, it's inexcusable and unsustainable to not pay your employees. :-(
How many muscle mags can you name that have gone under?
Off the top of my chrome dome...
- Muscle Digest
- Female Bodybuilding
- Women's Physique World
- MuscleMag International
- MuscleMag Annual

One of the major issues with print magazines has always been the numbers of readers vs those who brought them. Here in the UK we've lost 10+ mags since I started collecting mine. I wrote for a couple and spoke to others who were more involved. They told me the figure was often 7-1. So guy buys it and 6 others have a look. The best circulation was between 30 and 50,000 (IIRC).
We've only one independent mag now: The Beef and it's no longer seen on the shelves in shops (just become free though via gyms and mail). Flex and Muscle & Fitness UK editions are the only ones, outside of Men's Fitness etc. we'd call bodybuilding magazines that you'll see in a shop. Subscription only is the oldest bodybuilding magazine in the world: Health & Strength.
Mags that came and went (US and UK) include Bodybuilding Monthly, Muscle Express, Bodybuilding Lifestyles (the WBF mag), Hardgainer, Strength Athlete, Muscle Media 2000 and BodyFitness to name a few.06, 08, 09 and now 2010 British (4x) and 2008/2010 European Grip Champion (2x)
