How much do some of the top bodybuilders make from online coaching?
I seen a few of the top guys promote their online coaching often and they generally charge ($150-$200 for a month as an estimate). I don't know if some of these guys have people who assist with basic questions or what not but if they had enough paying customers they could make a living off the online coaching by itself.
I don't really know how much effort is put forth into the actual diet or training program as if you have a solid understanding of diet and training obviously you know what foods are healthy and what the better exercises to do are.
I don't know if the average person looking to get in better shape if it is really worth it unless they have some money or are serious.

What I am saying is if someone with solid knowledge of diet and training were to just ask a few questions and follow the diet and or training program they wouldn't really stand to benefit much. Now if the person were to get advice on how to improve their workouts, how to get more out of certain exercises, what to focus on in the ROM, that is something else.
For contest prep I could see how a specific diet training would be worth it as you need to dial in.

We've a pro at my local gym and I know it's pretty much how he makes his living. It's from several ways
1: Contest prep (inc diet and PED advice). We have guys and gals turning up for him to look at. He does a good job of this (sits low like a judge, is harsh when he needs to be, helps with posing).
2: Training. He's worked with Neil Hill himself and so a lot of it is nuances. 2-4 clients a day x 4-5 days a week and most of your bills are sorted.
3: Online selling of info, advice and photos. He got 5000 friends in one week on his pro facebook page. On the back of that sold 1000 photos in the first week. It will be a lot less now but even at 5 pounds a time that money will have been put to good use.
4: Sponsorship. It's been better in the past than it is now but he'll do ok.
What you also need to be aware of is just having a pro coach you, even if they're not that good, is an experience for some. It's the reason why some pay 2000 bucks for these 'audience with' evenings. Connor McGregor did one in Manchester recently and the total for the evening was in the millions of pounds.06, 08, 09 and now 2010 British (4x) and 2008/2010 European Grip Champion (2x)

McGregor is an entertaining speaker and is not afraid to say what is exactly on his mind.
Teddy Atlas calls him the greatest self promotor since Muhammad Ali. Arnold was also singing his praises as a self promoter. He's a bit of a one off.....thats wht he gets the big money.

Training courses versus full email prep. You can order a chest course or a general diet for gaining or cutting. Works especially if you're an average joe trying to shape up for the beach or a class reunion versus stepping on stage at Nationals.
And I'm sure how those 'audience with' events gave the first Arnold Sports Festivals a big boost in the early days. John Hansen, iirc, said the full enchilada cast $150 but I thought I paid $100 for all the events and a Polaroid picture with Arnold back in 1989. I bought the full event in 89, 90, 91, and 92 pretty much solely to get that Polaroid with The Oak. $100 was a big amount for this college student.
I can easily see someone paying a big amount to sit at a table with Conor McGregor, too.
