Food is always better than protein shakes. I understand the need for them as I travel a lot for work. Personally, spend the money and buy the best. SPECIES Isolyze is the best product on the market and is the best value. Solution mentioned some other quality brands, however for value (isolate protein grams per dollar) I have not been able to come close unless it is on clearance.

Anybody willing to post up some data that suggests 20 grams of protein from chicken, eggs or beef is any better than 20 grams of protein from whey? Seems like we always here "food is better" yet I never see anyone back it up as to why. Better biovalibility? What? Whey is dairy, dairy is one of the 4 major FOOD groups, so technically it IS food, correct? If a food is made in to powdered form, is it all of a sudden not a food? Humor me.

it's a misconception....protein is protein....unless you say food protein is better because of growth factors or extra vitamins and fats from the different types of meats
Just read this in an article this morning:
If eating 5-6 meals per day seems daunting and inconvenient, just use a quality protein powder between solid meals. This same group of researchers concluded in another extensive study that protein supplements and whole food protein sources were equally effective.Last edited by Young Gotti; 02-21-2017 at 01:42 PM.

In addition to micronutrients, cost is a factor.
Local prices may vary:
Whey Isolate $10 lb
Sirloin steak $6 lb
Hormone free boneless skinless chicken breasts $1.99 lb
Omega eggs free range chickens $1.5 dozenLast edited by black-elephant; 02-21-2017 at 04:00 PM.

That's true, like the iron and zink content in beef. But I don't know anyone who counts micro's or plan their diet around them where as plenty who count and plan around macros. When bodybuilders eats chicken they do so for the protein rather than the selenium and magnesium. And I would image sufficient micros can be consumed in the other macros such as carbs and fats.

Why I mean is, not all grams of protein per pound are created equal.

At this point I am gonna try to get unflavored and mix with some zero calorie mixes I have and see how that goes.....I am just over the whole gimmick of flavors suppose to taste just like a jelly donut and instead they taste like bland rice cakes covered in fart dust

I was always told food is better than supplement just in the way it is absorbed. Personally I would go with food to the point where time or being too fullto eat become bothersome. After that supplements have their place.
I have to say a good nutritious meal soon after a workout is the most benificial thing as far as I'm concerned. A post workout shake is ok but a 600-1000 calorie meal blows away any supplements for me personally.
