Default How Much Protein Do YOU PERSONALLY Believe Someone Needs To Build Muscle?

I just want to start a discussion on this. Over the years I personally feel we need far less protein than most in the industry think.

I used to eat 2 grams of protein per pound of my bodyweight. Now I feel less than 1 is adequate.....like 0.8 to 1 gram.

Please share your opinion on naturals and non naturals as well.

I'm currently natural and plan on staying that way for the near future.

A natural can get results on 0.5 - 1.0 grams per pound of bodyweight. I don't see the point in eating much more and all that protein has to be processed which the kidneys have to deal with.

Bill Pearls says 70-80 grams a day is enough although he is a vegetarian only eating eggs.

Pearl says moderation is the way to go and I agree. Its obviously different for a pro bodybuilder on a lot of gear.

I'm natural and I NEVER got results on 0.5-1.0 grams/pound bodyweight...or 1.5. Ever. I felt like I was spinning my wheels while beating my face against a wall! Might be my age as I didn't start lifting until I was 42. I hired Dave Pulcinella and he bumped my protein to 2.0 and BOOM! Finally started building muscle. When I drop below 2.0 I shrink. Really not into the shrinking thing after working my tail off the last 7 years, especially now at age 49.

Is 2.0 optimal for everyone? I have no idea. But by my experience and experimentation it works for me.

I guess everybody is different and then men and women possibly have different protein requirements. I weigh 235lbs so bodyweight might also come into it. It would be pretty much impossible for me to take on 2 x lb of bodyweight without gulping down a lot of protein shakes.

How very interesting. Could you build strength on low protein? Or were you struggling in the strength department?

I struggled with strength too. At 2.0 I noticed a major boost in strength. So I say when you find that protein sweet spot, just run with it.

I dont know... my opinion changes very often but it's always between 0,7-1,2g per pound

Flex Lewis probably never goes over 250 grams and he's the best sub 100 kg bodybuilder on the planet

He weighs 212lbs on match day so that would be 424grams.

I trained for several years doing the high carb low fat diet that mike mentzer said he used did the high intensity workouts too.i started taking in 400 to 500 proteins and started doing my bodyweight and strength went thur the roof I really believe you need at least 2 gram of protein to build muscle that said everyone is different you have to find what works for you.there is no cookie cutter program

Are you natural? If you consider that a personal question don't feel pressured to answer.
