Great condition and no apparent synthol are my first thoughts. Watching the striations in his chest and the flickering feathering in back is a joy.........just don't see it like Haney these days.

I wonder how much longer he would have remained dominant had he not retired

Well, who knows with Dorian. They were evenly matched and the judges could have easily said it was time for new blood. Haney has even said (perhaps jokingly) that he saw Yates and said it was time to retire. Or am I misremembering that?

I remember an old Lee Haney VHS tape I had of him training with Ty "Ropeman" Felder. Felder is now an NPC chairman for what state? Or was.

Not sure if I recall him ever saying that outright but it would seem that was a consideration to calling it quits after squeeking by Dorian in Lee's best ever condition. He had to know that in his 9th pro year, there was way less room to progress than Dorian after his second pro year.

Had that tape as well (still do somewhere). "The hound dog chases the rabbit but the rabbit stays a step ahead of the hound dogs. Some day they may catch the rabbit but until then, COME ON HOUND DOGS! (Very paraphrased... it's been a while, lol).

Felder is or was the Georgia chairman.

The only thing I would say is Dorian brought in a new level of drug use and I suggest he jacked it way beyond what Haney was using. I think Haney was young enough to get a big response if he went the mass monster stacks.

Haney had crazy genetics.......much better than Dorians and Haney is a clever man. I reckon Haney just didn't see the point once he had achieved his goal of eclipsing Arnold's record.

In one of the seminars where the past Mr Olympias came together in one place Haney joked that he retired when he saw there was another guy as big as him on the stage ..Dorian. In reality I don't think Haney was bothered making a generous comment about Dorian, he will always have 8 Sandows to Dorian six.

Dorian was not quite as generous as I was at a show where they had a bunch of champions onstage during Ronnie's reign and when asked who was better Dorian stated that he did beat Ronnie a number of times. Ronnie humbly agreed. It got a big laugh so maybe that was more of Dorian's dry sense of humor rather than a dig.

    Never thought of that.

    Dorian beat Ronnie by a mile in 95, 96, and 97. O.o

Yeah, but of course Ronnie made quite a jump in 1998 so I guess they never really went head to head at their best.

Yes, definitely agreed on that. You're right. Dorian must have been tongue in cheek with his response.

Or who do you think would have won if they had met at their best?

I have to go with Ronnie but not by the super wide margin some seem to go. He was peeled in 98 but Dorian had that dry grainy look which was just a different type of peeled so that's a stalemate for me. Ronnie has Dorian on chest and arms. Dorian has Ronnie on calves and forearms. Ronnie's quads had more sweep with Dorian perhaps having deeper separation. Dorian wins on abs but Ronnie's physique just flowed better. Ronnie wins glutes and hamstrings and those body parts get more consideration these days giving Ronnie a big edge. Dorian shocked everyone with his 1993 photos and Ronnie shocked everyone at the 2003 Olympia and in comparing those looks, I'm thinking Ronnie wins.

I have heard Dorian say everybody is chasing mass but only him and Ronnie really pulled it off. Dorian even said Ronnie took it a step further than he did.
