Steroids in Your 40's - A Major Health Risk
Before I get to the point of the thread I want to say this is not about TRT which is generally a medically supervised treatment.
I watched the video below, its like a lot of videos about dead bodybuilders we have all seen, but for some reason this video really brought home to me how many deaths by heart attack occur to heavy steroid users in their 40's.
To me it suggests their is a very serious increased risk of heart failure when bodybuilders take a lot of steroids from their late 30's onwards.
I have always believed, and have mentioned it here before, that serious competitive bodybuilding is an activity, for the vast majority of people, that should be pursued by guys in their early 20's to mid 30's. Before or after those ages the risks of steroid use seems much higher and it is not worth playing the game of russian roulette for older guys. For younger boys/men messing up their endoctrine system never mind lifting excessive weight before their bone ends have fully developed and hardened is a risk that makes no sense.
So why can't old guys give up the gear? I can sort of understand high level competitors pushing the boundaries for financial reward but what about the guys who's best days are over? Its a strange psychology and some guys seem stuck..........very stuck..........emotionally and physically retarded, unable to return to a life open to other things outside bodybuilding. Stuck in a never ending cycle of chemical warfare to escape from the real person inside them.
Bodybuilding is a pursuits that can kill you if you don't know when to call it a day. An old man has a greater chance of dying climbing Mount Everest but still old men die climbing that mountain..........when does the ego disipate and wisdom kick in?...........
For some reason I found this video below more poignoint than many others of the same ilk.

Anyone who uses at any age should be aware of the risk. That being said we should have the choice what we do to our own body.If we abuse for too long we shouldn't cry "oh poor pitifull fucking me" but again we should be able to put in our bodies what we choose.

It's a Faustian bargain. You sign your name in blood with the Devil when you hijack your endocrine system, which is delicately balanced, like all other body processes. Then you gain knowledge that Man Was Never Meant to Know. That's all well & good, but when the contract comes due, you are up for whatever goes.
That said, some individuals would rather have the knowledge & suffer the consequences. & the truth is, those who use carefully & cycle off every so often, & pace themselves, may not be doing any damage to their bodies in the long run. But every body is different, & if anything else is not up to par, AAS can become a risk factor for an early death. & sometimes it's side effects, like an enlarged heart due to hGH, that get you.

Just from personal experience, my bloods are different now in my mid 30's than they were in my late 20's on the same trt amount. Mainly an increase of hematocrit but also just the way I feel. trt is one thing but every now and then when I get a "wild hair" and want to step on the gas a bit I can't do half the amount that I used to without my body feeling like shit.

400 bodybuilders in their 40's dont live long.
This guy in his 40's is destroying his body from steroid abuse. Wanting to be 400 lbs at that age is just stupid.

Abuse is not good at any age. Monitored use doesn't seem to be hurting JoJ in his 40s.

Big part of it is a lot of bodybuilders are extremists. Moderation is a near impossibility for some. Others it is natural. The second group has a higher probability to come off for long periods, use a more health appropriate pattern of use, and view them as mroe of a supplement rather than the key.
On another note, AAS were licensed as medications for various conditions that require enhanced tissue synthesis, enhanced recovery, and combating other various conditions. They can be health promoting if used in certain ways.

Testosterone could be a miracle drug if researched appropriately. Guess what? The US gov't doesn't want it researched by the NIH. It made the mistake of classifying it as a controlled substance, so it can't admit it could be useful for health & longevity.
That said, what do you want to bet that secret military research is being done to turn soldiers into super soldiers using AAS?
