Are FBBs a Male Obsession?
I have two novels about women's bodybuilding: Body, by Harry Crews (1990); & Chemical Pink, by Katie Arnoldi (2001). Both depict an obsessive man who attempts to dominate a woman by turning her into his own twisted version of female muscularity. Granted; these are novels. But it's interesting that they both suggest that female muscularity is a male obsession, rather than a female one. Any responses to this?

Arnoldi had experience as a competitive bodybuilder. Crews cited friends in the bodybuilding world but said his book was not meant to depict the reality of bodybuilding.

Have you heard of the human Barbie doll? It's possible she is doing it to attract attention generally, not to attract men's attention. & many women dress to impress other women.

By "obsession," I mean an interest that gets to the point of harming the person interested, & possibly others. I am not talking about intense & continuing interests that harm no one. The jury is also out on what "harm" can mean.

My wife is on gear but she competes in figure and Is as if not more obsessed than me . I wouldn't want it any other way either because she is my training partner and this is a niche lifestyle and really hard too include an outsider they don't understand having someone on the same page that pushes me too reach my goals is a god send

Why are the words "obsession" & "bodybuilding" so often found together in a sentence? I'm not surprised when I see them together from someone outside the BB world, but I also see them together when someone is inside it.
