Peter McGough offered this tribute to Lynn Conkwright on his Facebook page just three hours ago. May she rest in peace.
LYNN CONKWRIGHT: 1954-2017, RIP
My good friend and ace historian, Joe Roark, has informed me that Lynn Conkwright, women’s bodybuilding pioneer has passed away at age 63, in Virginia Beach. No more details at this time. Lyn won the Women’s World Championships in 1981 and that year’s World Mixed Pairs championship with Chris Dickerson. She was third at the 1981 Miss Olympia. For many years (from early 1990s to early 200os) she was she was in charge of the signed athletes at Weider. A vivacious personality she used her gymnastic skills to good effect. So sad. Lynn was a longtime friend. I had the pleasure of coaching her for the 1982 Women's Superstars competition that was televised and very popular in the early 80's. We featured Lynn on the cover of Women's Physique World magazine....one of our more popular covers. She was a treasure in women's bodybuilding and my heart is broken with her passing...........

I stand corrected on the magazine she appeared on, it was Body& Power - a magazine I edited in the very early 80's. Sorry, I'm still having a problem processing Lynn's death.

I really preferred the look of womens bodybuilding in the early 80s. Lynn conkwright, Rachel mclish, they looked great and the ifbb should return to that standard for female bbding.
Steroids make male bbders look good, but the women look better without them in my opinion. 63 is not old. what happened?

IFBB is already doing that with women's physique, but female competitors have came out and said like for example Alyeesha Young during an interview with Lenda Murray, that not all people can adjust themselves to fit the standard of the 80's bodybuilding....the genetics are much different its not just about using steroid which too many people are so stupid to believe that's all it takes for women to gain big muscles.
Just look the video posted here of Lynn in the 1984 Olympia where she put on a considerable amount of muscle compare to how she was in the beginning of her career and it was probably done without any steroid or maybe just moderate, nobody knows for sure but her, but nobody gave her backlash for it because she still had a great championship caliber physique without look as if someone abused the drug. So its possible, people just have to be smarter with how they do things.
And not all male competitors by the way look great with excessive steroid use, its not a gender bias situation.Last edited by Andersen; 06-26-2017 at 01:18 PM.

This is very sad to hear. Still so young. She was one of the foundations of Female Bodybuilding. HOF.
