Super League: Is it Even Bodybuilding? Iron Rage
Dave Palumbo and John Romano are back for another hard hitting episode of Iron Rage (powered by Yamamoto Nutrition). Today, the duo tackle the newly minted Super League, which is going to be holding their competition in Las Vegas on the same weekend as the Olympia.
The curious thing, to Dave, is Dorian Yates' affiliation with the Super League, given his status as a former Mr. Olympia.
Is this bodybuilding? Is it more like cross-fit? Is it a viable alternative to a posing competition or a glorified "Bros vs Pros?"
It's Iron Rage on RXMuscle.com.
When in doubt, get bigger.

I think Super League is a great idea.
There's nothing to do with Crossfit. It's about Performance! - Just like weightlifting, powerlifting and strongman; sports which many bodybuilders and I love.
Bodybuilding is getting a little boring and too subjective.
It's great ideia to put great bodies into Real test!
It's too bad Dave Palumbo declined a interview with Mr. Dorian Yates, six times Mr. Olympia.
It could be a great interview and would show Dorian Yates side instead of Dave non sense speculation.
I agree with Romano.
It seems Mr. Palumbo is "too against it". Too bad.
I wish all the best to Great Dorian Yates and the Super League!

By the way:
Dorian Yates never bashed anyone. But he already explicit said this modern Bodybuilding is not really appealing to him anymore. Mainly because the lack of a more aesthetic and vascular look.
That maybe weird for some since Dorian started the Freak Era.
But already said sometime that was when he started the use of insulin that he wasn't looking so hard as before. He felt bloated etc... And that's what Bodybuilding has become, unfortunately.
Anyways...
It could be a great and a interesting interview with Dorian. He would have a lot interesting things to say.

The people who make money through association with the IFBB seem to be really agaonst Super League. I have seen this on several sites. I don't like sycophantic behavior, it makes me a little sick.

I love the idea
Interested in competing in it myself. Bodybuilding is my first love and always will be
As a "lifestyle"
Lets face reality competitive bodybuilding has very little buzz and excitement anymore. This season on the pro level has been the worst since i started following the sport 16 years ago.
Almost zero coverage of national shows or most pro shows.
I remember after the Vancouver show i was looking for pics and couldn't find them anywhere on any of the sites.
Nothing enticing about competing anymore

I must be the only one who still enjoys IFBB men's open bodybuilding. I still love going to the Olympia and still get excited when Steve tells Phil and Rhoden to stand on the line one last time. Dorian, who stood next to Joe and Ben Weider as he ushered in the new era of mass monsters winning the Olympia is now bothered by the lack of aesthetics and vascularity? Don't bite the hand that feeds you, if all of these former Olympia champions are so upset about the current state of affairs why not form a committee with the IFBB to set new standards, why not become judges (imagine Dorian and Arnold judging the Olympia) they could set the bar to a level they have been preaching about for years.

This will suit guys who:
1. Dont have the aesthetics for bodybuilding.
2. Are not interested in dieting.
3. Have no interest in wearing a thong on stage.
4. Don't like being solely judged on what they look like.
5. Guys who are stronger than most bodybuilders.
7. Guys who want to competete by performance When a bodybuilder walks on stage there is nothing more he can do, he is being judged subjectively. In SL a guy can be inspired to do a great lift. This is huge, its horrible standing on a bodybuilding stage knowing you are not going to place well and you can do nothing about it.
This is great for guys who are big and strong but not the genetic elite.
I think RX should do an Iron Debate on SL, the Rant was not comprohensive enough.
