    Cool Nats Clinch!

Nationals clinch NL East title as Strasburg dominates - and Braves walk off Marlins

For the first time in their franchise history, the Washington Nationals have won back-to-back division championships.
And the manner in which they locked down the National League East suggests they just might be ready to last beyond the first round when the playoffs commence next month.
Behind eight dominant innings from Stephen Strasburg, the Nationals defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 3-2 at Nationals Park; nearly two hours later, the Atlanta Braves got an 11th-inning, walkoff two-run homer from Lane Adams to defeat the Miami Marlins 10-8, and ensure Washington its fourth division title in six seasons.
As Adams' home run cleared the fence at SunTrust Park, Nationals players began a celebration in their home clubhouse, as did fans at Nationals Park.
A few minutes later, after the Nationals tossed T-shirts into the crowd of their most diehard fans, Max Scherzer addressed his teammates in the home clubhouse.
"Here we are boys - welcome to the postseason!" Scherzer, the National League Cy Young Award favorite, exclaimed as he popped the first bottle of Korbel.
The celebration was on thanks to eight shutout innings from Strasburg, who now owns the longest scoreless streak in the major leagues this season - 34 innings, also a franchise record.
It's easy to forget that this time last year, Strasburg was out for the season, a flexor mass strain in his right elbow shelving him for September and the playoffs. The Nationals then lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a five-game National League Division Series.
It was their third NLDS exit in as many tries since winning their first division title in Washington.
This time, however, they should have the 1-2 punch of Scherzer and Strasburg intact - and perhaps even home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
Sunday's win moved Washington (88-55) within 4 1/2 games of the badly struggling Dodgers for best record in the NL. That designation brings with it home field as well as the right to host a wild card game survivor in the NLDS.
Strasburg, now 13-4 with a 2.64 ERA, struck out 10 Phillies and held them hitless into the fifth inning. RBI hits by Adrian Sanchez and Victor Robles - who tripled for his first major league hit - gave Strasburg the support he needed as he held the Phillies to just two hits. Ryan Madson gave up a pair of runs in the ninth inning but held on for his first save as a National.
After the Braves rallied for three ninth-inning runs, and Adams went deep two innings later, the celebration was on.
"We're in the tournament - what more can you say?" first baseman Ryan Zimmerman said during the postgame celebration.

The Nats figured out the Cubs tonight to win the second NLDS game. A number of players stepped up, getting timely hits to match the great pitchers on the team. They shift to Wrigley Field, where the Cubs will have home field advantage. Should be exciting.
