Rory Leidelmeyer Great Posing 1983 Nationals (Good Quality Vid)
This is Rory at one of his best shapes & it's good quality for the time. The crowd goes nuts & he does a great routine. One of those that would have made a very good 80's pro. If you watch it on youtube I would appreciate a like. Thx KC
Slowly going through tubs of DVD's/VHS tapes & transferring them.Bought a ton of videos, photos & magazines on ebay & other places several years ago.

If not for Bob Paris, Rory would have been a pro at that show and we would have got to see how he would have fared. One of the greatest to not go pro.

Puma, there was a story of Rory and Lee Haney at the first NPC Nationals, too. Dave interviewed him years ago, maybe as far back as No Bull Radio?
Rory was enlisted to do battle with Haney at the show, the big draw. He agreed initially but then backed out because of some family issue. Iirc, there was some anger about his no-show status at the contest.
Just imagine Rory at this show. Look at that list of names. Many are on Facebook, including Leidelmeyer.

Did not know that about the 1982 Nationals. Interesting stuff for sure.
I did hear Dave's interview some years back and I am FB friends with Rory to keep up with what he's up to (still lifting and looking big).
I do recall him on Entertainment Tonight (I believe it was) as he was training some Hollywood star at the time. I distinctly recall him saying that he was the one who could beat Haney and that "I know it and he knows it". If he could have put it all together, he might have been a threat to Haney. I believe the same could have held true for Strydom during his 2 years in the WBF.WNBF Pro Bodybuilder

If Rory were competing now in the open category in the shape he had in the early 1980s, he would easily have qualified for an IFBB pro card. It is unfortunate that such a lid was kept on the pro qualifications back then, but at that time almost no financial incentive existed to go pro; it was an opportunity to pay the IFBB to compete. & for anyone in a pro show who doesn't place in the money, it still is.

Definitely too bad we didn't see that! This show was loaded with quality throughout. It was the 10 year anniversary of Steve Michalik's Mr America win and he was the guest poser. The pic with him and Wayne Demilia was taken on stage, as the NPC presented him with a plaque, while the ab shot is from 1980. During that year, Steve beat Samir Bannout, Mohamad Makkaway and Boyer Coe. Coe was lighter than usual, but Samir and Mohammad were on their game and it was a tremendous win for Steve, considering he was not close to his pre accident best. If anyone has that video it would be great to see.
Curt..can I get a little help w the pics please haha

You probably already know this but the 1982 Nationals was the 1st.
It was the Mr. America in 1981 but I think the AAU owned the name.
The big thing most don't know is the 1981 America was on HBO &
Rory went all the way to the lightheavy class coming in 2nd to Belknap.
