Great interview, touching on a lot of industry issues with tact but also honesty. Really appreciate that. Sometimes it feels like everything in bodybuilding happens behind closed doors, & everyone not behind those doors is left to guess at what is really going on. Joe tells us for once.

Thanks, Mike. I have no reason to be anything but honest in an industry where that is treated like a bloody needle from a junkie with full blown A.I.D.S. and being that way may have caused me some trouble over the years. Too fuckin' bad and I don't regret any of it.
When I was a sportswriter, I never dealt with the pussy shit I see in bodybuilding and was so glad that Deniz asked me that question in the interview. Sure, there were some jerkoffs in the press box, but even they did not come with the intent to fuck someone for a job and then do their best to run them out of business.
Of course I an referring to The Ironic Douche.

I think the defensiveness in bodybuilding goes back to the Hoffman vs. Weider days. The days of the muscle wars are still with us, as Manion was right in the middle of the NPC defection from the AAU. It was all about who got to call the shots in the bodybuilding world. The Weiders ended up the winners on that one. It is no surprise that the only healthy general circulation mags that persist are Muscle & Fitness & Flex. We need more than that, though, & MuscleSportMag is most welcome. Long may you continue.
