    Lightbulb Dirty Words in Bodybuilding!

I have a few bugaboos about bodybuilding I enjoy bouncing off you guys on RX, & one of them is the industry's dirty words. I will mention three that I classify that way & tell you why.

    NATURAL

I have no problem w/ natural training. It takes a lot longer & requires more dedication, but you can get there in ten years rather than two. What I don't like is people bragging that they're natural (when often they're not), & the idea that there's "good" bodybuilding & "bad" bodybuilding. If someone is serious & wants to go pro, I don't see how they can do it & stay natural--at least, in any federation worth joining.

    BULGING

I hate the word. It's the most overused modifier in bodybuilding. When I started my website on bodybuilding in 2000, my first vow was never to use the term to describe muscle.

    COMEBACK

Bodybuilding is a life commitment. Sometimes you're out there & sometimes you're not, but I don't see anyone as needing to make a comeback. If someone is getting back to competition after ten or fifteen years (& I've seen that a lot in the masters competitions), that is fine. Get out there & show what you've got. I say leave comebacks to school or fraternity/sorority reunions.

When I was powerlifting there was this one local guy that entered a lot of meets that was all anti-steroid and he always had a t shirt on that said NO DIANABOL on it or some shit like that. Then he would squat about 275lbs. and everyone was like no dianabol yeah no shit.

I'm going to flip this thread & mention some terms I like a lot to characterize bodybuilding.

    SHRINK-WRAPPED SKIN

I just think it sounds exactly like a stage competitor should when at 100%.

    CORRUGATED BACK

Just sounds accurate for the kind of grainy look that a cinched-in 'builder has who will place high. I am less hot on the term "roadmap veins"; I've heard it too much.

    BEEFED OUT

I invented this one for a Masters Nationals tape review.

I mod on two forums and the number of guys who say 'I'm on TRT' when they mean 'cruising' is fkin annoying. Ain't no doc involved in their 'TRT'.

    Exclamation

    CONTINUE

I hate this word in public discussions almost every time I see it. "Continuing" comes up when people are put into uncomfortable positions & won't admit they have failed to deal w/ something, & will continue to fail to deal w/ it.

Ex.: "The bodybuilding community regrets the recent deaths of promising young competitors, & will continue to find ways to prevent such deaths from occurring." Yeah right.

    Lightbulb

    HE'S (SHE'S, THEY'RE) FAT.

Being fat is relative in bodybuilding, a world that thrives on ripped, lean, beefed out physiques (at least on stage). Since top competitors make money off-season by showing up for guest posing, meet & greets w/ the pro, & what-it's-like-to-be-me master classes, they will have to appear looking not that good. I didn't mind Mike Matarazzo apologizing for his condition the first time I saw him guest pose, but the third time he did that I realized I would never see him in shape (at that point, he was no longer competing). I'm not knocking Mike, he had his boat to row, but if you're going to guest-pose, it's an issue. Dave Goodin once said that while he was actively competing, he stayed one month out from being in top shape at all time, in case a photo opportunity or guest appearance opened up for him. That is not standard in pro-dom. You have to make it up to the fans in other ways, like Roelly does by getting down in the audience & doing the selfies w/ him in the guesting.
