Mr Olympia Phil Heath
I just don't understand why Phil Heath has such bad press in the pro bodybuilding world. It's hard to find anyone who really likes him. Why is that? Leave Phil alone!

Phil implies the classic physique guys are not the real thing--the top ones will cross over to "real" bodybuilding eventually. Is he right?

Well, maybe, It has something to do with being the champion and showing a lot of arrogance towards others...
But he's still a great bodybuilder.Last edited by Oz_Fucker; 12-17-2017 at 11:59 PM.

In an industry as fan-driven as bodybuilding is, it is tough for the current reigning Mr. O to be as disliked as Phil is. Some top competitors have overcome negative fan reactions in the last decade; some might remember that Jay Cutler got bad press at first, & Dexter Jackson was also disliked. But both of them turned it around. Phil has tried to be fan-friendly, as this video suggests, but so far fans aren't drinking his Kool-Aid.

I rarely agree with Heath, but have to say that I do so for the most part in this instance. I speak about why in a new video posting tomorrow but the Cliff Notes version is that the two guys who are considered the 'best' classic physique (Olympia winners) did not exactly have stellar records in open bodybuilding. Hester took a long time to earn his pro card and Ansley did not fare well in the 212.

I feel like it's apples & oranges. Women who win pro figure competitions won't win women's physique or bikini. The judging standards are different. There's no way Hester can do anything in open pro shows; he's too small. But the IFBB qualified him as a pro, & then offered him no chance of doing damage in an open pro show given the size expected of a competitor. He disappeared next to men who weighed 50 pounds more than he did. Classic physique is geared differently. Phil would not win a pro classic physique show, standing next to Hester or anyone else. His height & weight would disqualify him from competing in that class. I don't think it's fair to say Hester is a "weekend warrior" (a euphemism for "amateur" or "pretender"); he has dedicated as much of his life to bodybuilding as Phil has, & has done so for a lot longer than Phil has. For these reasons, I respectfully disagree w/ Phil on this matter.

Phil is a gifted bodybuilder but his character is more than flawed. When somebody is as universally disliked as Heath there must be some explanation for it.
