I’m familiar with gene editing tools such as CRISPR, CRISPR-CAS9, snd SiRNA. They weren’t available back in the day (17 years ago) when I was working in a startup company in Baltimore but my former boss IS using them now in his therapeutics research. Makes me wish I was still a chemist.

When applied correctly, they can do a mountain of good. Misused, as with anything else, they can do more harm than good.

I hate to doubt progress, but genetic engineering is so complex that these fly-by-nighters (some without college degrees) scare me.

This individual is obviously not using gene editing technology in the way it was intended. And yes, those people are to be feared. That said, a LOT of insight into disease mechanisms and therapies are coming from gene editing tools and that is very exciting!
