Passed away at age 22 from a congenital heart defect that caused a heart attack while he was in a sauna.

So sad only 22. I wonder if his death could have been prevented?

The death could have been prevented if he had known about the heart problem. I feel sure docs would have warned him to make many changes in his life, but he didn't know he needed to. Obviously a hot sauna was stressful on his heart, but that just triggered cardiac arrest; he was vulnerable due to other factors as well. There were probably a 100 things a day he should have done differently. But he didn't know. I guess the lesson here is to own a heart condition before it owns you. & there are steps the well can take to predispose themselves not to develop heart problems down the line.

Several years ago, I was in an ICU for a heart condition I didn't know about until it hit me. I was given a 40-page report that the heart unit had authored called "Contributing factors for heart problems." I was on every page of it. I had no idea those other things, some of which I was aware of, some not, contributed to my being in the ICU. I made a lot of changes, & probably should have made others. But at least I knew.

Oh wow. Hope all's well with you Mike? I mean shit, there are markers based off an EKG & blood work. Troponin is a huge blood marker as is c reactive. I wonder if he knew & thought he could bypass it through diet and exercise? Again so sad, but going into a sauna and your heart is screaming for oxygen isn't the smartest idea.

Ace, thanks for your concern. I had heart arrhythmia (called V-tach, short for ventricular tachycardia), & that is not a heart attack, but it results in cardiac arrest so it is heart trouble. That happened in November 2012, & I was stabilized & given appropriate meds. I asked a doctor in the hospital how often they saw patients with it. "Every day," she replied.

Wow. It's scary how life is so extremely fragile. I ALWAYS take caution to anything I put in my body. Your body as the saying goes is your temple.

For me, I eat raw garlic, jalapenos, turmeric & black pepper, ginger, cinnamon, and cooked tomato sauce every day. Plus 30 minutes high intensity cardio EOD. I'm going to add dark chocolate every day. I want to make sure I do tons of research on things we eat. Why? I absolutely enjoy learning, and love experimenting. I firmly believe that food is our best medicine in prevention. Prevention is allot more beneficial vs curing. It is more beneficial for longevity. Always better to be on the safe side. That goes for anything, but balance goes along side as well.

Ace, I hear ya. & agree on an ounce of prevention. However, I don't think longevity is the only evidence of a life worth living. & a lot of bodybuilders trade longevity for shorter-term success with their personal body goals.

"The last time we talk could be the last time." A line from a favorite TV episode. Live your life the way you want to be remembered. You never know when you can't dodge the bullet. I was almost hit in a crosswalk in June 2017. The car missed me by inches, & I didn't even see it--I felt the air brush past me. The person driving was drunk, & never saw the light. The car went one block further, drifted into the opposite lane & hit a car dead on. It could have been me. When I use that crosswalk now, I look both ways the entire time I'm crossing. The drivers waiting at the light probably think I'm crazy, but I don't believe in dodging the bullet twice.

Very true Mike. I guess if you have kids & wife it's different. Bodybuilders who do "live life in the fast lane" meaning blasting to the gills which is scientifically proven to effect the heart and raise PSA, GH which is proven plenty to raise cancer as we've seen time & time bb getting brain tumors , really need to pay attention & use every preventative means possible, otherwise, at least in my eyes, you are a selfish human being.

In my opinion, Lee Haney is very smart. He proved his point on the stage & left in his early 30s. He knew he made his mark, & knew it was the perfect time to leave.

Very humble & smart. If u go & go at it time & time again, & u aren't going no where, for the life of you, just STOP!

After all, doesn't health & longevity mean anything people's?!?
