Athleticon in October 2020!
Nick is spreading the word on Dwayne Johnson's huge event in Atlanta, starting 9 October 2020 (a three-day event w/ all sorts of things, including bodybuilding).

The website is just soliciting email addresses at this point but will have more specific content as the months pass. This may turn out to be the future of bodybuilding competitions & expos. However, without the pioneering work of Arnold & Jim Lorimer, & Ed & Betty Pariso, something like this could never happen. & we're lucky: like Arnold, Dwayne hasn't gotten his origins.

Athleticon update courtesy Evolution of Bodybuilding. The money may not be as big as was first rumored. The article says the expo will dwarf the Olympia in Las Vegas, but the comparison should probably be to the Arnold Classic, & it will not dwarf that.

I was just coming on here to post about this. $1 million spread across 8 divisions is actually less prize money than the Olympia. It's a little offputting they have that statement in there about the expo blowing the Olympia and Arnold expos out of the water. Athleticon is after the Olympia and before the Arnold it is not competing directly with either. It's quite obvious there was a rift between the Rock and AMI and possibly even the NPC and AMI but I think with how well Dan Solomon ran the show Jim Manion and company have new found hope in the Olympia as a brand.

I suspect new sponsors that the promoter of Athleticon has confirmed will want to get on the bandwagon at the Arnold & the Olympia. If they sponsor Athleticon, it makes sense that they would want to get into other big events. & Arnold's brand, name & image remains the defining one for bodybuilding. A pic of him from his competition days is on the new issue of Muscle & Fitness (dated November 2019).
