Giraldi didn't get very far w/ competitive bodybuilding, but appears to use it as an example of toxic masculinity based on bad parenting. I ordered the book a few days ago & will have more to say about it when I read it. Meanwhile, it sounds similar to the sour but well-written memoir of bodybuilding by Samuel Wilson Fussell titled Muscle: Confessions of an Unlikely Bodybuilder (1991).

I got the book today. It appears to be the real thing. Am anxious to read it.
