It's a silly thing but it's kinda a shame that guys that were absolute freaks and 300+ shrink so much.
Heck, when I fucked my back in 2016 and did nothing but grippers while laying on the floor for 8 weeks and did rehab and walked (no work, no gym) for the next 8 weeks I lost 10lbs. I went from 280-282 to 270-272lbs.
Right now, dressed, I'm over 300lbs. I'd bet if I stopped training for a year I doubt I'd get down to 250lbs.06, 08, 09 and now 2010 British (4x) and 2008/2010 European Grip Champion (2x)

U think it's from the amount of gear they stopped using regards to losing all that size? I notice the ones that come off still eat a good amount of protein and still train.
Or lack of calories?

Gear. Look at Jay Cutler maintaining size and Ronnie, damaged as he is, lean and muscular.

Saw him compete at the Night of Champions. I remember thinking how there seems to be bodybuilders that fill voids after guys go out. At the time, I recall thinking how Branch Warren sort of replaced Tom as a freakishly thick guy. I thought Melvin Anthony sort of took Flex Wheeler's spot (though never placed as high of course).

If we used only Tom as an example that would be true. However, we didn't. You can find examples of the time Gary Strydom got injured during his peak. He shrank down to (and I quote) 'Tennis Player size'. Others have gone the same way. Feel free to look up pros of the 80's and 90's and do then and now comparison. Those that still train, even allowing for their ages, maintain some muscle. I think we can safely assume they're not on shit loads of gear.
