    Default Ugh...period problems

So last month my period came about 4 days early...the evil curse decided to make an appearance on the same day as my first competition...talk about timming

Anyway, this month I am now 5 days late...WTF I swear I was PMS-ing last week too. Then suddenly poof, symptoms gone and still no period.

If anything I would have expected to be late during contest prep...not now.

with me, it depends on how lean I get and if I am running anything. Last year mine was gone for oh...6 months I think. Then when it re appeared, it was pretty much whenever it wanted to show up. One month was several times.

Your body just has to level back out. If your worried you can always do the little stick test to be safe.

I didn't loose my period at all during contest prep even though I was prepared for the possiblity of it getting all wierd.

I'm not worried about pregnancy, hubby & i are very careful, plus the last month of contest prep pretty much demolished my sex life

I just hate it when my body starts doing wierd things. i have been rather stressed the past 2 weeks, so that could be it.

I get mine every 28 days like clockwork but it's the pms I hate. I have that for a week leading up to my period, sometimes more. I took some period pain killers today but it made no difference. And vitamin B makes no difference either to the bloat and the swelling and pain leading up to it. It affects my training because even brisk walking hurts and I feel myself having to drag my legs through every step. I feel so disgusting and full of water. It's actually a relief to get my flow. I just want the pms to end.

I usually don't get my period the last month, sometimes 2 months leading up to a competition. It's weird but I still get the symptoms, just no bleeding. When I stay lean it does come but very very light. The only thing I suffer from is EXTREME FATIGUE to the point that even getting out of bed is a hassle. It's usually the 2-3 days leading to it but then the minute my period comes, it all disappears.
Now, one thing I'd say is to be careful. I know you said you and your hubby are, but when you compete and get crazy lean, our hormones go a little crazy. Sometimes you might ovulate at a completely different time than your usual...which will affect your period, and in some cases...you might end up pregnant! Just be careful.

I did realize this. I track my periods online at mymonthlycycle.com

Basically, I use a site made for women to want to get pregnant to not get pregnant. Anyway...I can see when I should get my period and when I should be ovulating. So this month when my period was late I figured that I couldn't expect my ovulation time to be accurate.

W/ competition anything is possible... it varies so much from woman to woman.

This is what I would expect actually. Your period tends to go away when you're at low bodyfat. It also works on a 28 day cycle, so it usually take at least a full 28 days in a "normal" state of existence to get back to normal. So you're looking at time for your body to rebound back to a higher bodyfat (which is typical w/in 2 weeks of a show - usually back up to 12-15%), and then whatever additional makes a complete 28 days at a 'normal' state.

I would just not worry about if for the next month or two. If its still an issue after that, you can talk to your OB/GYN about it.. I'd still not worry about it that much .. but your doc can presecribe something like clomid or something to get things going again. I've personally found the body will start up when it perceives everything is "back to normal". Only you can say what is "normal" for you - e.g. if you are still having stress from anything or your two shows back to back were enough of a stress on your body that your hormone levels may be out of whack (this can happen, but IMO takes a LOT of stress and extreme dieting to get you there). So just saying there are cases where it may take longer due to some reason, but typically it will just be a month or two while your body sorts out the whole post-show rebound and gets itself back to a normal and predictable state of existence.
