Mike Matarazzo's Health Issues due to Synthol? (Just an opinion)
disclaimer: The things i am going to write in this post are not facts, just my thoughts and opinions which may or may not be true.
Mike Matarazzo required heart surgery because his arteries were blocked severely. I believe while using synthol he accidentally hit an artery and thus caused the health problems he lives with today. I don't believe that it was due to eating alot of red meat and the use of anabolic steroids as wikipedia/various articles claim.
Maybe he wanted to maintain the integrity of his bodybuilding legacy and did not want to admit that it was synthol, or maybe he didn't even realise he had done it when it happend?
The same happend to Milos Sarcev and he says himself he is very lucky to be alive today.
I don't know if anyone else has wondered the same thing but like Nasser says, Synthol is as common as toothpaste in pro bodybuilders.. everyone onstage at the Olympia this year will be using or have used synthol or some similar substance.
Looking at this picture, i think his biceps have synthol in them..

I saw a video of him a week or two ago from one of the Olympias...1999 i think.. and it was so blatantly obvious.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Z5WtnduONA"]YouTube - Mike Matarazzo goes a bit psycho at 1999 Mr. Olympia[/ame]
I know nothing about the guy except have heard he was exceptional til his health got in the way.

Look at his back dbl bi the second time he hits it around 2:44. Its painstakingly obvious.
Looked like a motherfuckin maniac on stage in that routine though. I like the energy.

Synthol puts someones life in extreme danger the second it gets into the artery. Its not something like plaque that deposits over a period of time.
I agree with you that all the olympia competitors are using synthol. The truth is that they use very little and just touch up certain areas. A guy like kai greene has serious muscle on him as demonstrated by his big lifts.

I'n not so sure,
I've no doubt that smalamounts of synth get used to bring up lagging parts but we all know that it clouds the muscle if too much.
Mike was absolutely pounding the red meatm insulin, thyroid and steroids over a long period of time.

Sidenote : is it just me or are Levrone's and Matarazzo's physiques very similar?

His health issues are attributed to diet and huge amounts of AAS IMO!!!

No (couldn't be more disimilar/i consider Mike a Friend but......he was all Arms and Calves... Kevin Levrone was a far more "complete bodybuilder"
Mike lacked "flaring quads" back/lats/upper chest/hamstrings ..also Mike had a distracting long torso)
Mike = great performer/"Freak"/muscle mass
Kevin= great/legend in bodybuilding...could have won a Mr Olympia or two in his time!
2 very different bodybuilders

You don't BELIEVE... Well, I have news for you, just because you BELIEVE the sky is green doesn't make it so.
Good God. Synthol? Really?
Do you even know what causes artery blockage? STATIONARY plaque buildup in the vessel is what causes CAD. Synthol flows freely if it gets into a blood vessel.
No.
IF his issues were caused by hitting a vein or artery the effect would have been acute, not cumulative over time. Look at Milos' experience, shooting synthol into the bicep and injecting into a blood vessel...he went to the ER and almost died THAT DAY.
Mike M had these things contribute to his heart problems:
1. Genetics. Above all things, your genetics determine your response to ALL outside stimuli. That's why some people get lung cancer at 45 and others can smoke until they're 90 with no issues. Did you ever see pics of MM's dad. The dude was a walking (not really, he was confined to a wheelchair) list of medical maladies.
2. AAS. Raise LSL and lower HDL.
3. The dude ate a TON of red meat. He talked about it all the time in the 90s. Majority of his offseason protein was from beef.
Stack these things together, and that's what happened to him.
A 20 second Google search would have eliminated the reasoning that birthed this thread. It's the internet, there's a ton of medical fact here for the taking...
