I had a septoplasty done 3 years ago after my nose being broken 4 different times. I was in the hospital for 3 or 4 days, I was training martial arts seriously back then and not too into lifting weights so took about 3 weeks out after leaving the hospital from going back to the martial arts classes just to be careful and let it set.

The main problem immediatley after is you can't breath through your nose at all and need to avoid stressful things like sneezing. After the surgery there was a splint put up each nostril and these were taken out around 10 days after.

I had a rhinoplasty done around age 20. I was in love with the gym back then and didn't miss a workout. The doctor told me "No football!" lol

Other than that admonishment (and two very black eyes) there were no restrictions.

My brain must be the size of a walnut, though, with all the gauze he pulled from my nose/sinuses! Seemed like miles of the stuff.

Wishing you a smooth surgery and quick recovery. Back then they did keep me overnight. I remember the nurse coming in and changing my bandages. One of the few times I swore at an adult as a 20something.

Note that this is an anecdote nearly 30 years old, so...

I had a splint on the outside and a ton of gauze shoved into my skull. lol

I started lifting weights 4 weeks after my rhinoplasty. My surgeon was adamant about not lifting during recovery. I was able to do low impact cardio after the first week.

I don't know if I have a low tolerance of pain or not, but I found the healing process to be excruciating. To me, it was like someone was hitting my nose w/a hammer repeatedly.

I had open rhinoplasty almost two years ago and the actual operation was a piece of cake (I even felt my nose being broken ---didn't care because the drugs made me feel so good lol) ....however around the 4th day I looked like the lion king. The swelling was so bad that it made my oldest son almost cry. I lived with ice packs, pineapple and arnica. Around the 10th day I was able to go back to work and be seen in public.

Oh, I was back in the gym at around 3 weeks.

The only pain I really got from the septoplasty was when they took the splints out but that only took a few seconds. When it was healed up I noticed the difference immediatley, good luck with the surgery Tammy!

I hope they cover it all for you.

My procedure was categorized as elective, though the surgeon did mention a deviated septum. Back then the whole ticket was $1000.

Wow..thats weird. I just had that surgery on August 27th. It was the second time I have had this surgery. And I got insurance to cover it all. I am not allowed to lift for two weeks. Sucks. All I have done is sit around the house, cook, clean, and eat. LOL! I sound like a little housewife or something. He also gave me three weeks off work. But pain wise, I haven't had any. Maybe a little ache or so but no real pain. PM me if you have any more questions. As far as your surgeon goes, will it be an ENT dr or plastic surgeon. This is very important.

    heh

    Thank you.

I missed the one spam link in my reply, though.

That's okay because their domain was seized by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Click that link and you're quickly redirected to an anti-piracy YouTube. Pretty cool.

So insurance can cover a nose job??? I freaking didn't know that. I am looking into this. I have sleep issues dur to deviated septum but even more so my nose is like a clown. Wanted surgery for so long but didn't want to take the time or the cash to do it. If insurance can cover even a percentage I am down! Thanks for the info!! Great thread!
