SisterSteel, it's really heartening to hear someone who's really look inside of themselves and wrestled with who they are. We are all on a journey and we make choices for ourselves so that the journey is the most positive for US. Both negative and positive choices make us who we are.

did you read my post the other day called "Man in the Glass" ??
it was the end of feb on my thread
"Q & A with Canadian Dawn Alison"
if you didn't
you should read it
i understand where you are coming from
been there many times myself
when i came into recovery from Drug addiction
i learned alotta things
and one thing i live is the poem "Man in the Glass"
I am who I created
To thine own self be true
and if you don't like me move away
because i like who i am and i wouldn't wanna be anyone else
I got teased in high school by boys about my biceps
and when i found bodybuilding
just like when i found narcotics anonymous
i was like "Oh now i found out who i am"
another great thing I learned
is to put myself in a Golden Sphere
and let all negativity bounce off it
but when it bounces off
turn that negative into positive....
cuz God knows we don't need anymore negative
floating around in the world !

Great post! Good to hear from another independent thinker!
Although I've only been lifting a couple of years (wish I had started years ago - just hadn't been introduced to the benefits!), I've always thought for myself and have "questioned authority." I've never been in the "popular crowd," even when I was a kid.
I question what "the group" thinks, rather than just blindly going along because going along is "easier."
I have a feeling that's kind of necessary when it comes to being female and lifting weights that are heavy enough to be effective, rather than "going through the motions" pointlessly with 5 lb dumbbells like so many women do. I notice that the women in my gym who come in groups with their "friends" don't work out hard, whereas some of the gals who come by themselves lift decent amounts.
It's great that you enjoy being asked for advice or for a spot.
