Does anyone know anything about the "retinol" line? It was recommended to me and its on the cheaper side. I was unsure if anyone's used it....

Your opinion on OTC anti age lines like Oil of Olay Regenerist, etc.
You guys with the huge sponsor ads in your signatures make reading the forums annoying.

That's a tough question to answer. The company doesn't provide info on % Retinyl Palmitate used in their formulations nor grade of components & formulation method. In order to be effective it takes a minimum of 1% retinol acetate (pure vitamin A) properly formulated using medical grade components and manufacturing standards. I'm less familiar with the effectiveness of the alcohol ester Ulta uses (Retinyl Palmitate) but will continue to research it. In the meantime, contact the company and see if you can verify their % concentration and manufacturing standard (commercial grade vs pharmaceutical/medical grade). I wouldn't waste my money on any commercial grade skin care products (or supplements for that matter). Too many quality loopholes! Generally, your pharmaceutical quality products are going to cost more. For instance, the Ulta site carries a Dermadoctor 1% Retinol product. It's a decent product line but also carries a price tag of $75. It costs a company a lot more to follow rigid quality control standards.

Thanks! I think it's a neglected subject in physique sports. On the one hand we're supposed to be as muscular and cut as possible. On the other hand we're supposed to look "feminine". If a gal is lean enough to sport a cut ham-glute tie-in and is over the age of 12 then chances are her face and skin is going to show some wear and tear! Proper skin care can do wonders to "save face" (and body)!

Re: Taking on new clients - Please feel welcome to PM me so I can get a better idea of what you need and how I can help.

What a cool thread... glad to see it here! I just finished cosmetology school for esthetics in June and I'm currently waiting on the state board to send me a date for my licensing exam. There's still so much for me to learn, so I look forward to following this thread!

My favorite skin care scientist, Dr. Peter T. Pugliese, says to first try blinking really hard about 10 times or so, especially when you first wake up. This forces fluid out of the extracellular compartment and helps activate the lymphatic drainage system. Gentle circular pressure massage around the orbital bones is also beneficial. Caffeine, applied topically, works too....Try soaking tea bags in really cold water and using them as compresses. In one "Eye Zone" treatment we place round flat stones cooled in ice water over a compress (like tea bags) for a few min. or so and then follow that with circular pressure massage. But, like most people, I don't have the time or motivation or memory recall to do a treatment like that as often as I need. So I use Dr. Pugliese's butt gel (ie. Circadia Professional Firming and Shaping Gel) on my eye area and get GREAT de-puffing results from that!

Some of my clients rave about Regenerist. (But many of them work for P&G). That being said, I haven't noticed it doing much of anything. Not that products like that can't be beneficial (depending on quality, etc.), I just don't think most people will really notice any effect. At least not in a time frame most of us want to see some results. I sure didn't... There are so many quality loopholes in commercial grade manufacturing that it's hard to tell how effective OTC products are. And if you don't have your basics in line then all the other more esoteric stuff isn't as likely to work as well, if at all. The basics are topical Vit. C and broad spectrum sun block every morning and Vit. A at night. Throw in a decent exfoliant (AHA/BHA) as needed/tolerated and you've got your front line defense ready for action. Now the specialists can do their thing (antioxidants, peptides, etc.) If your skin is super sensitive or you have a skin condition that prevents you from using one or more of the basics then you have to rely more on the "specialists". In that case, however, I think it's much better to stick with medical grade product and consult with an experienced skin care professional to help sort through all the stuff out there.

Perfect! Let me know how you like the glycolic pads. (Are they the straight glycolic ones or the GlySal ones?)
