#1 thing that sucks about bodybuilding...
People outside of our "world" do not understand that this not a hobby, its a life style...
Case in point I am 6 weeks out, just killed the hell out of legs and spending my night recovering at home just hanging and eating like most of us would do if we could, well I was supposed to hang out with a friend (not my girl friend the gf understands), and I decided it would best to stay home and I let her know last night here is a copy of our Facebook Convo:
Today
10:18pmApril
im still sad that you ditched me.
10:18pmJon
I am sorry ape...
10:18pmApril
yea yea
10:19pmJon
I know it doesnt make sense, but I cant really do much at all, next year I am not playing softball, I will coach, but as far as swinging the bat and running no way
It sucks and I will make it up to you I promise
10:20pmApril
so you cant hang out with your friends for a few hours?
10:21pmJon
Well I am just supposed to be at home, and do nothing really...
10:22pmApril
thats no kinda life to live. but who am i to say so
10:23pmJon
I know its hard to understand, I am missing Saul's 21st in vegas
10:23pmApril
for wat?
10:24pmJon
My show its 20 days prior to his birthday in vegas and Icant go because I would miss meals and workouts...
10:26pmJon
And this stage of the game I cant do that
10:26pmApril
i know you love that stuff, but youd really miss your best friends birthday to workout and eat right?? thats like me missing my best friends bday because i have a physio exam in 2 weeks and i need to study.
idk. it just doesnt seem like you. or at least who i thought you were when i knew you better.
oh well, its not my business. im gonna go study some more. ttyl
10:32pmApril
i wasnt trying to be mean. or insult your decisions. im sorry for being harsh.
10:34pmJon
Its cool it your opinion, I am not mad about it or did I take offense, this is a Lifestyle, its not a hobby... To win shows and take home trophies, get press and sponsors I have to do a lot of things most will not do...
its a 24/7 thing and it a part of who I am now
10:35pmApril
but is winning shows, taking home trophies, and getting press more important than your friends?
10:37pmJon
Chris understands 100% he knew before we sat down and talked about it
I do get have fun and be crazy when I am not getting ready for a show from like december to may/june
10:38pmApril
okay. watever. its not my life. ill see ya around after your show maybe. goodnite.
10:39pmJon
YEP you will
This type of thing is a constant, and you deal with it... I wish there was more stuff on bodybuilding in mainstream culture so they realized what's at stake at the "X" out week mark, we have always been freaks, we will always be freaks, its something norms will never get I guess...

Go to his party and consider the day off or two as a break. It will probably actually help you more then hinder you to get the extra rest and calories.

If you're thinking about bodybuilding professionally I guess that seems reasonable, otherwise hanging with friends for a few hours won't kill you..good luck on your show.

Stop being a square. Go have fun, it's not like you're getting paid to do this.

Its hard to advise you on your life. kind of a double edged sword: the warrior in you wants to stay home for the show and be in that mental state. The sane part of you wants to relax for an hour or two and feel free from the lifestyle your in now.

Like DP said. You need to think about what you're doing. Missing a best friends birthday for a show in 20 days? Bring a shit load of protein powder or something and go have fun. You're young and aren't getting paid. Who will you celebrate your victory(s) with if you've pissed off, or lost, all of your friends because of this "lifestyle"?
Pros & cons, my friend. Weigh them.

I have to say I respect your choice. Because I'm in the same boat. I feel like if they your real friends they will understand. If not for get them. I say the people that stand by you during your prep is real friends. After my prep the only one standing near me will be my fiancé and I'm cool with that. Stay away from the negative and good luck at your show.

not to be a prick but I'm just going to be straight forward. By you starting this thread and bitching, I would say that bodybuilding is not for you.
