america whats goin on?
Just wanted to know whats going on with the american economy? I live in Australia and currently looking at purchasing a block of land and cant seem to find anywhere cheaper then $100,000 and thats dirt cheap and thats in an isolated area, in the city its like half a million atleast for a decent block or more. Then i look on the internet and detroit has property for like $5000 for a house, WTF and that near the city centre. And these entire run down cities and the whole owing trillions to china and all the rest of this american crisis stuff got me scared i dont want american culture to be replaced by chinese crap, so is america goin to be ok? whats up with entire cities going to shit? and will america still be the super power in years to come?

Honestly i've never found US that expensive. Its not cheap but not expensive either. Not now not ever.
For 300.000$ there you can get a pretty nice house with garden, huge parking space etc.right?
For 300.000€ (430.000$ aprox) you don't get shit in Barcelona. A 2/3 room flat in a poor neighbourhood at most.
Plus food, supplement, gas, everything is cheaper there and the salaries are higher.

America will be fine. Trust me...a $5K house in centre city Detroit is not a place anyone wants to live in. It's been that way for a long time...even before the recession.
Where are you looking for land in Oz? I'm thinking that the job market and economy of Australia is so much better that I might stay just for that reason.

Why? If I was smart, I would buy houses for one dollar. That is what needs to happen there.

What's happened to America is that wages have stayed the same for the past 15 years while the cost of housing and a college education has tripled.
Taxes are MUCH LOWER than they were in 1980. If you're a CEO, you're doing great!!!!!
Ya wanna come here and work for $10 an hour to buy a $350,000 house??? Be my guest.....er.....I mean the guest of the banks who will skim any widows' mite of savings off of you!
And you don't want that $5,000 house in Detroit. Trust me on that.

Same as every where in Europe. It amazed me when i came to the states how babied most people are. In the states people live on a sheltered existence funded by loans, then when they get to the real world in their mid twenties they are basically fucked thanks to all the loans.
Europe is more expensive than the States. Minus the government and various "odd" restrictions and laws America is a paradise compared to the rest of the world.
