help with diet
I have kidney disease, and I am needing help with my diet I dont have the resources to hire a nutrionalist so i thought I wuld try here.
Right now i have been eating a low potassium moderate protein diet. My potassium was very high 6.2 when i was diagnosed in July. Since with my diet I have brought it down to 4.2 which is normal.
Here is what i eat monday through friday for the first 3 meals meal 4 varies
meal 1
1/2 bagel
3 pieces celery
1 tablspoon pb
meal 2
2 lightly salted rice cakes
1/3 cup chicken salad
meal 3
6 oz chicken
1/3 cup brown rice
1/3 cup green beans
1 apple
i have alot of protein in my urine..so i am trying to not eat as much protein. I do get to eat whatever i want on saturday and sunday. I will probably be decreasing that down to 1 day.
I have my diabetes under control with 2 prandin a day down from 3. and i no longer have to take Lantus insulin.
Any help would be appreciated.
And PLEASE only serious comments here..as this is a very serious thread to me thank you

753 calories a day?? thats insane how are you not starvinggggg??

if you are going from 750 to 1200 with your last meal, that is close to 40% of your calories in 25% of your meals...not really a stellar ratio. I would try to "Balance" it a little more. Take a little out of that last meal and maybe add an ounce or two of meat to the rest if you want to stick with 1200 still.
but I don't know.

What does your doctor say? I would think you'd have to watch your protein intake and not take in too much. Give us his guidlines and we could help you better.
You guys with the huge sponsor ads in your signatures make reading the forums annoying.

he hasnt given me an exact number..he wants me to talk to a hospital nutritionalist..those people NEVER know what they are talking about at least in my experience.
I have seen some references to go for .5 gram per lb of bodyweight
so for me that would be around 125. so i say between 125 to 150
hope that helps someone give me some guidelines
I apprecuiate the help guys and gals!!

the "hospital nutritionalist" you are talking about is most likely either a clinical dietitian or a doctor that specializes in nutrition. either of these health professionals are highly qualified and know exactly what they are doing. what are your past experiences with dietitians???
they arent going to give you a diet for performance here. you are now in what is known as tertiary prevention... at this stage, the objective is to prevent your condition from becoming worse or death. they will give you recommendations that you probably will think are dumb, but thats because YOU dont know what you're talking about. seeking medical advice on a forum is proof of that. for a condition like this, it is totally unethical to give any suggestions for a diet based on your medical conditions.
my advice: go see a clinical dietitian and adhere to their recommendations.

wow and you dont know shit about kidney disease.
all i have done ON MY OWN is drop my potassium levels from 6.2 to 4.2 100% on my own with my own diet.
i have lost 45 pounds ALL on my own. NOWHERE on here did i ask for medical advice you dont know shit about me or my condition. there is no medical advice as there is not a cure besides a transplanbt. Show me where i asked for medical advice?
so may be learn about kidney disease before you spout off and tell me what i am doing, when you are 100% wrong. i kn ow what i need to do. i limit my protein and sodium..and my potassium.
but of course I dont know what i am talking about right?
i have only redesigned my diet on my own..lost weight kept muscle and dropped my potassium.
i need to know some other good protein choices as all i eat now is chicken and some lean beef.
my experience with a dietician is they tell you to eat 1200 calories a day and pretty much all from carbs so thanks for not knowing shit bro

LOL alright man do whatever you like. i wasnt attacking you, someones a little quick to get defensive. since you state you know what you're doing and you know what you need to do, why are you on here asking people for help? if you knew what you were doing, you wouldn't be here asking people you dont even know for advice. and if you did need some help, you would know where to go for credible information. i could go on but, since you're already on the defensive, its not worth it.
