Why Power-Lifters are douchebags
No disrespect to all the power-lifters here, but when you guys use a machine, you INVADE THE DAMN THING!
Yesterday was leg day and I usually start out with free-wieght squats. On my way to the squat rack, I see 3 annoying power-lifters who take their sweet ass time working out. I thought to myself "why not pre-exhaust my quads with extensions first. I'm sure they'll be done."
I did 6 sets of leg extensions, 30-45 seconds of rest in between and they were still not done. I went up to them and asked them how many sets they have left and they replied with "we're taking our time". So I end up waiting for 3 minutes, watching these guys train. They load up the bar, do one rep and rest for 10-15 minutes talking about MMA or tapping some ass.
So I was like screw this, I'm not ruining a leg day for these douchebags. I go in and tell them "I'm doing a set". I unload the bar and they're all looking at me and had no choice but to say "Ok go ahead".
I did 5 sets of squats, 30-45 seconds of rest, without having the decency to ask if anyone of them wants to do a set. After finishing my 5th set, I racked the bar at the highest rack (they were all below 5'6, I'm 6'2) and left to do leg presses.
This happens everytime whenever I bench, squat or deadlift.

at my gym everytime you ask someone "how much you got left" they get all stressed out and always respond "only one set!"
even at the bottom floor at my gym where the "non hardcore people train" but it has an awesome leg extension machine, there was a semi old lady, probably 45 or soemthing, and I asked how much she had left and she said "I can just use another machine if you want to?" even though there are no other leg extensions, I tried to explain that I could just work in between and no need for her to just stop,
she ended up just leaving though lol, So much for Trying to at least be nice for once haha.

Oh yes, definitely. I'm a douchebag when it comes to driving, but not when it comes to weight-lifting. If I was a powerlifter, I'd atleast have the decency to say "I'm going to rest for 10-15 minutes. Why don't you go ahead and join me", as opposed to "I'll be taking my sweet ass time", and you're left hanging.

its all there to be shared, jus ask to jump in.... Dont forget most powerlifters were starting with bodybuilding aspirations like goals too... Havent ever met a powerlifter that didnt respect a strong body builder though. But they even hate you more now cos u used the used the leg extension machine too,. So ur stuck on the other side of the fence for ever till u bring it up with them.

I always encounter people who are on machines or in squat-racks just at the time when I need them. I generally observe them from where I am prior to heading over and have a feel for how long they've been there. When I get to that station I simply ask "is it OK if I work in with you?" I've never had anyone say NO. Technically YOU are the one who invaded THEM since they were there already. By just abruptly announcing that you were going to do your 5 sets regardless. Gym etiquette is a two way thing.
BTW... just curious... what kind of weight were they using?? 5, 6, 7 plates?
