Default Gym Review - Power Zone Gym (Bangkok, Thailand)

On my way back to Australia I've stopped of for some bodybuilding fun. Here's a little write up and shots of:

    Power Zone Gym

Soi 23 Prachasongkroh, Din Dang, Bangkok, Thailand 10400

Power Zone is owned by Khun Sitthi Charoenrith, 5 time Mr. Thailand, 2 time IFBB World Champion, 2 time Mr. Asia, and twice runner-up in the Mr. Universe. This is a hard-core gym with plenty of BB competitors. Many of the guys here have won their division in the Mr Asia contests.

Once you make your way through the typical Bangkok backstreets, you arrive at the entrance to the two story facility. Directly as you walk in you see the numerous trophies and medals of the owner and members of the gym. The walls feature photos of Thailand’s best bodybuilders. Even as you take your pre-workout piss you can marvel at shots of Mr Thailand in his earlier years.

The gym is very well decked out, with everything a serious trainer could need. Prices are very reasonable, I paid 400 Thai Baht for a full weeks membership. There are always a few big guys around with great physiques, very motivating when trying to grow.

After your workout sit down in the Pro Shop and have a protein shake and a very cheap chicken and broccoli meal. What more could you want? If in staying in Bangkok this place is a must for any bodybuilder.

12$ for a week's pass-that's good. What are the costs of other things-food, hotel, etc.?

Good fella, I deffinitely wana be at that point in the future, but I need to get my training certificates and get my business up and running, and I'll be away.

The way I've always looked at it, posessions aren't that important, it's what you do and achieve that is important, and you really are living that life. Way to go lol

While i was in Thailand i trained in Phuket Gym, Patong. It was decent, not as well equipped as the one youve shown pics of but it was good enough. hardest thing was the heat and no air con, god damn ive never sweated so much just from doing a 50 min weight session!

Nothing compares to the old Universe Gym on beach road, Pattaya that Shane used to own. Dennis James was there and a whole assortment of massive no names just taking advantage of the sun, sand and prescription free "supplements"!

Is that near the main centre of Bangkok? I stayed in Rex Hotel on Suvarnabhumi Road and another over near the main Muay Thai stadium. I missed out on the gyms over there but found a capoeira class. Gotta love good quality hotels that are cheap, have all you can eat breakfast buffets and a pool.

Thailand is very cool. But true that if you're not accustomed to heat you're going to spend your first few days managing mild heat stroke LOL. Definitely want to pick an air-conditioned gym if you're there to train. Thank you for the great review!
As for Pattaya -- YUCK. Dirty, stinky and sad, very depressing unless you are one of those there to exploit the situation. Thailand has many, many beautiful things to see though, if you're there to relax and vacation.

    And the cashew chicken.......mmmmmmmmmm...........

It's not central but close to the highways so it doesn't take long to get there.

Even by Meter Taxi it is quite cheap.

Personally I love the heat. I came through from London and was walking to the gym in like 0 degrees C. I would take me about 20min just to warm up.

I felt the same way about Pattaya.

Cashew chicken is the key to my heart haha.

Is the California chain of gyms still there? I trained at those a bit back in 2003-2005. Uber-fancy... and they always had the AC on way too high.

The Lumpini outdoor gyms are great too.

Yeah they are still there. I've trained at he Pattaya one. Saw the Bkk one but didn't bother going in haha.

You're right about the AC, it's silly cold in there.

Lumpini is awesome. Not sure if you saw my other thread...

Is this place pretty close to Silom?

Hi guys, hope I'm not out of line, but have some questions about lifting in Thailand for 2 months. I plan on being in Thailand for 8 weeks (Sept and Oct 2010) and was wondering your thoughts on training there--where to go, who to see about juice and how to find a trainer to both train me as hard as possible and inject? (major needle phobia here, eek). Anyway, any thoughts? I'm game for any area as long as it's got chicken, fish, cheap accom., women and I have access to a great gym (heard good things about PZ) and trainer. Also, how much does a trainer run there? All info greatly appreciated. Peace.

Peace.
