Withdrawl Effects
This question is for anyone or everyone who has gone into ketosis.
I was just wondering, are there are any quicker, less painful ways to get into ketosis? I am a going to start my diet for my next show in March but I am also a mom of a 4 year old and work full-time. I get super horrible withdrawl effects...eventhough they only last a couple of days, it can be pretty powerful with excruciating headaches and nausea. I can't afford to hibernate or be in my own world in those 2 days and just wondered if you have any suggestions? I have read some of Dan Duchaine's tips for getting into ketosis quicker and with less trauma and just wondered if you agree with those from Body Opus?
Thanks so much everyone! I know there is no easy route but the withdrawl effects I get are so much worse then the fatigue and weakness leading up to a show. When I do get into ketosis I literally sail.

I just read through the Keto thread and some of the suggestions on withdrawl effects. I apologize for starting this thread everyone. I should have read more before posting.

Working out the morning after and sticking to oils/shakes seems to work well for me. That way I have no residual carbs and I am burning back off those stores.
Don't apologize, your from canada, we expect this kind of stuff. LOL. J/k

I'm going to try just have one small clean carb for my cheat meal. I'm also going to do one long cardio session the morning after to try to burn off glucose faster.
I know steveg says the day after a cheat meal he goes heavy on the fats (60%) and he says that gets him into ketosis quicker.

I'm one of the strange birds who can get into ketosis while still eating up to 40grams of carbs a day. Granted, it is a 'Keto Lite' but it helps me ease into the zero carb keto pretty easy.
On any given day I only show a trace of ketones, but if I load up on the fat the tests strips turn a dark shade of violet.
I go for a few weeks in the 'Keto Lite' then drop the remaining carbs over the course of a week. By that point my body is so used to burning ketones I don't experience the crash, or the wobblies or even the odd euphoria much.
Once I'm ketogenic, like I am now, I'll stay here a long time using fat as my cheat to have some caloric variance. On this particular run, I jacked my fat up 1,800 calories a day and will gradually cut fat calories as I go along.

Actually that was my strategy this time around. I don't start the "official" contest prep diet until March 6 but wanted to get into ketosis using cheeses and higher fat meats etc. This has made it so much easier and I had no withdrawl effects (so far....crossing my fingers and drinking LITERS AND LITERS OF WATER....OR AS EVERYONE IN THE STATES SAYS "GALLONS AND GALLONS" OF WATER). (wink)
